    Bledsoe gambles on Bills, future

    J.P. Losman of Tulane may be the Buffalo Bills' quarterback of the future, but for now, Drew Bledsoe is still the guy the Patriots and the rest of the NFL have to defend.

    Bledsoe made it possible for the team to keep both him and Losman over the long haul by restructuring the seven-year, $104 million contact he signed with the Patriots prior to the 2001 season. Bledsoe's position on the depth chart, however, could change fairly quickly if he doesn't adjust to new coach Mike Mularkey's system, which is designed to make the Patriots' former franchise quarterback better protected and more effective. For now, Bledsoe has made it possible to keep competing.
