SABRES off Empire????

New York - NBC Sports and the National Hockey League announced a partnership that will bring NHL games to the network beginning next season.

The agreement is for two years and was announced in New York City by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Dick Ebersol, Chairman, NBC Universal Sports & Olympics.

The deal would allow NBC (Channel 2) to broadcast seven regular season games starting next January and six playoff games on Saturdays. The network would also get rights to televise games three through seven of the Stanley Cup finals in primetime.

The partnership is subject to approval by the NHL Board of Governors.

If you remember the SABRES played a game against the Flyers on NBC last yr. this makes alot of sense Tom Golisano and Larry Quinn have said many times that the SABRES want to expand the SABRES fan base to outside of Toronto and NBC reaches to those cities that are outside of Toronto Empire did not. Could this be the end for the SABRES on Empire???

This doesn't mean Empire and the Sabres are through- unless Empire sinks completely. There will be a need to show all the Sabres games locally on something- and this agreement only means less than 10% of the schedule is on Ch 2.

Of course I remember when Ch 2 showed many of the road games back in the 1970's.

I am guessing that the highest ratings that station recieves other than Sabres games are the Simon and Brinson show in the afternoon...

If Adelphia does not show the Sabres...whether on Empire, Adelphia 13 or some other public access station, they might as well close up shop. Right now, either dish company can provide the same service for at least $15 a month cheaper...you get everything you would get with cable. I have had both...don't listen to the propaganda...I have digital cable...half the time you can't get half the channels about 102...with satellite I lost signal during really heavy rain storms...personally, satellite was better, plus you can get the sports packages and the nfl network...

the only thing cable gives you that satellite doesn't is Empire and Weather on the 8s on the weather channel. I pay $70 a month for my digital and those two things are not worth the extra $25 a month...

Actually you can get Empire on satellite you just have to get the sports package.

And HSBC/Golisano Were Signing Into the FOX Sports Net, Where the Customers can View Both Sabres and Amerks games..

We get Empire through Directv for only 40 bucks a month, we also get FSNY and MSG being that we live in New York...

We didnt get the sports package to get Empire on Directv, it was on the total choice package which is like 30 or 40 a month...
