Cougars rookie dies in sleep
Cause of death still to be determined for 17-year-old son of Lee Fogolin
By CP
EDMONTON -- Former Edmonton Oilers captain Lee Fogolin and his family are in mourning after his teen son died in his sleep yesterday. Michael Fogolin, a 17-year-old defenceman with the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League, died at his Edmonton home.
The cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy will be performed but the results are not expected for two to four months.
Michael Fogolin is survived by his parents, Lee and Carol, and older brother Rory, a former Alberta Junior Hockey League player.
"I'm too devastated to talk right now," Lee Fogolin said yesterday, choking back tears.
Lee Fogolin captained the Edmonton Oilers from 1981 to 1983 before handing the 'C' to Wayne Gretzky.
He won Stanley Cups with the Oilers in 1984 and 1985.
