but one of my trainer buds has me convinced to start taking a protein supplement. It's not pure whey, but rather a mixture, which will work better for the activities that I train with and participate in. He basically challenged me to try it for a 1 month trial. I work out pretty hard, and feel as though I've plateaued. He thinks this will take me up to another level. I'll let you all know how it goes. I'll probably start on the protein in about 2 weeks.

I've used protein shakes in the past with great success. Are you trying to build muscle mass?

I've heard that as a rule of thumb you should try to get as many grams of protein as your bodyweight - if you are looking to add mass. That's nearly impossible if you don't supplement - unless you have the time to cook up high protein meals to last the day.

You have arthritis, Cntry? Where and what kind? I'm sorry to hear that. You seem way to young to have it.

I'm good about taking a multi-vitamin and a vitamin E pill but that's it.

Oh gosh, I'm really sorry to hear that, Cntry. My mom has ostioarthritis. She has it in her hands, knees, neck and shoulder. WOW! You were young when they found it. You always think of arthritis as an "old person's disease." I'm not going to lecture or preach, but you really should take your meds. My mom is on Fozamax. I really do wish you the best. I know how painful it can be and from what my mom has said rhuematoid is a lot more painful. She sends you her best also.

Thanks. :) My mom has osteo and osteoporosis. My aunt has crippling rheumatoid. I'll do better next week - but that'll because we're playing war games and with all the pounding and gear that I'll be wearing..... I just don't recoup like I used to.

I am trying to get a little bit more lean muscle mass, while dropping a few points on my body fat, which is already about 9%, I think. I just feel like I can't work out much harder than I already do, and need to see if something like this will help give me that little bit extra.

I think it can help. It's not going to work any type of miracle, but it will ensure that you're getting the protein you need in order for your muscles to repair and grow.

that's what i've heard too, BF1. 1g of protein for every pound of body weight. Currently I take GNC Vanilla powder Mega Isolate which contains 50 grams of protein per serving...I do that once a day after every workout.
