Was last years drop in sacks for Posey a case of "1st year Blues" after switching to a new team and scheme... or Was he misused by having too many DC's.

It seeed as though he didn't Quite find his comfort Zone last season and that may have caused the Decline along with being dropped into pass coverage too often which isn't the strength of his game.

Gildon on the other hand also seemed to struggle last year with Sack production in Pitts.. but was that a result of him slowing with age of could he also a victom of a system that may have not been taylored to his style of play any longer?

If Gildon is bought in would he be more effective at DE or LB... or would a change in scheme to get both Pass Rush specialist involved give the Defense the jumpstart in sacks it needs.

Whatever the solution, it is apparent that tha weak point of this "D" is in the Pass Rush... Gildon used correctly could be the difference In this defense being top five in the League and it being #1 Overall, which is what it might take to win the EAST.

They both have good size for a linebacker, and both are undersized for a DE. Posey is younger, making it more likely that his drop in sacks was more likely related to how he was used as opposed to declining physical skills. It's a little harder to know with Gildon because he is older. I guess my feeling is that if Buffalo plans on having both of them on the field at the same time it could be worth bringing him in. If not, I don't see where Gildon is a sure bet to increase sack production.

I agree whole heartedly.

They would both need to be on the field to make themselves effective enough IMO.

IF we sign Gildon, Id almost in passing downs drop Fletcher off to the sidelines, put tko in the middle and have Jason and James coming off the edges on blitzes. Or we could go 3-4. Id love this move. BTW Gildon is the better pass rusher. Hes a more proven one.

I like that idea a lot.....Fletcher is pretty bad in coverage....Could be a great idea.

You answered your own question. A 4-3 SLB plays a lot more pass coverage than any OLB in a 3-4 scheme. Anyone who really expected Posey to repeat his numbers from a 3-4 in a 4-3 should spend some time learning football 101.

Do you think we should play him more for his Pass Rush ability or just get a more versitile LB like Gildon. Posey doesn't seem to be that good in Pass Coverage.. and we sure could have used a 9 sack season as opposed to another Coverage liability.

I don't know about you but, Gildon or Denney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If we do get Gildon I think him and Posey would be a great duo coming off the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then you have to watch out for SPIKES at the other end!!!!!!!

Combined with a well timed safety Blitz from Wire or Milloy, an opposing offense would feel Pressure from different directions... That leads to takeaways, sacks and INT.'s.

Or wide open receivers for easy 60 yard TD if everyone is gone blitzing and no one in coverage.

Actually, from what I read, the majority of Posey's nine sacks on the Texans were on nickle and dime defenses when he lined up with his hand down as a (four-man) end and strictly rushed the passer, and not the stand-up linebacker like in a normal 3-4.

Secondly, Posey had 5.5 sacks last year in less than half the time of rushing the passer than he did the previous year. Denney had the most and Kelsay backed him up and even McKenzie played a little. Posey didnt get much of a chance to rush the passer like they said they were going to do. Plus, two of his sacks caused fumbles the Bills recovered and one went for a TD. I think a third caused a safety that Adams almost recoved for a TD.

Thats why "Well Timed" Blitzes are important... All Out Blitzes are a sign of desperation.. or a lack of respect for your opponents passing game.

I remember a few "JailBreaks" being used against our "O" last season... With the additional Weapons we have this year Drew will have to make anyone pay who tries this season.

Gimme Gildon...

Posey really let me down last year. I thought he had at least 11 sacks in him last year, but he was basically non existent in alot of games last year. So I say, out w/ the old and lets try something new.
