    The Buffalo Bills' offense proved once again Sunday that it's dangerous to try to play kill-or-be-killed against Drew Bledsoe, Eric Moulds and Peerless Price.
    The Buffalo Bills' defense, meanwhile, delivered a lesson of its own: It is no pushover when it comes to a battle of brute force.

    Let the rest of the NFL take notice. The Bills are one of the surprise teams in the league at the midway point of the season.

    Their 24-17 victory over the Detroit Lions improved them to 5-3, just a half-game behind first-place Miami (5-2) in the AFC East and 11/2 games ahead of third-place New England (3-4), which comes to town next week for a long-awaited showdown.

    "I think we all knew the ability was here, it was a matter of how quickly we were going to jell, and I'm a little surprised how fast we've jelled," Bills tight end Jay Riemersma said. "The big thing is this team is starting to expect to win."

    "We've got a three-game winning streak and we've got some momentum going in at halftime (of the season)," Bills coach Gregg Williams said. "That's crucial. But we've got some huge games coming up and we've got to improve."

    A crowd of 72,710 in Ralph Wilson Stadium watched Detroit become the latest team to struggle to find a way to contain Bledsoe. ...MORE...
