The Bills spent heavily in free agency last season to improve woeful run defense that didn't produce big plays and it helped improve the run D from 29th in 2002 to eighth and the defense was second overall last season. The free agent additions of LB Takeo Spikes, DT Sam Adams, LB Jeff Posey and S Lawyer Milloy certainly helped bolster the Bills' defense. But the problem was on offense, where quarterback Drew Bledsoe's poor 2002 second half spilled over to the entire 2003 campaign.
