On Simon & Brinson's show Jeff Morrison (Bills beat reporter) talked to Gildon agent today and confirmed it. IT's just a mattre of dotting the I's and crossing the T's. Also JAson is looking into getting realestate in the Buffalo area.

I heard that. Plus they said he'll be wearing number 9.

I thought that was only for kickers and QB's?

and if I am? :club:

We can settle it on Friday at lunch

Seriously, you might have heard them wrong or they were just high when they said it. :idunno: NFL Rules have been in place since 1973 regarding jersey numbers.

Denney seems like a good guy, and I am sure he will be willing to give up #92 for Gildon.

I don't know hsi agent said that he will be in Buffalo the middle of the week searching for realestate so maybe during that time.

I thought that position thing was unwritten and teams just stuck to it for convenience- ie Keyshawn wears 19 as a receiver.

The league just changed the jersey numbers allowable this past year. I do not think a LB or DE can wear #9. They did vote to allow receivers to wear #'s in the teens again though. They used to, outlawed it (although allowing guys like MeShawn to keep theirs grandfathered), but now have changed again and allow it. Which makes sense because WRs I believe were the only ones that had only 10 possible numbers, but now have 20.

Nothing was changed last year...that's been the rule since 73

It's been in the books since '73. WRs are allowed numbers in the teens as well as in the 80s...it's been that way all along...it's not a change that they installed last year.

No, they couldn't. When I said last year I meant this last year's winter meetings. They just changed it for this upcoming season. Otherwise you would have seen dozens of WRs with numbers in the teens.

I was wrong abot the keyshawn part being grandfathered (they did grandfather players like Lance Alworth that had non-80 numbers in the 70s). I forgot why the NFL allowed him to wear #19 when he demanded it after he was drafted but then they put their foot down after that. WRs are allowed to wear #'s in the teens in pre-season, only because there were more players than possible numbers (80-89) on some rosters. If they made the roster, they would have to have numbers in the 80s. This coming season will be the first that any WR can wear a number in the teens.
