Mike Williams did NOT show up at practice today.

Mularky is addressing the press after practice today.

Stay Tuned...

Grumblings are stating MW may have been overweight, and may have caused the playing with 2nd team yesterday.

I am all for the temporary demotion, but I think we need the big guy this year, be it as a backup or whatever.....I am worried......

Apparently Williams is not practicing this afternoon per Jeff Morrison on Empire. Mularky is supposed to issue a statement after practice concludes. What is going on with Williams?

Can someone merge these please. Didn't see the other thread.

Again, this is just rumor about why he didnt show up, or what is going on... but they mentioned that his Grandmother passed away this summer... and MW took it extremely hard.

Could have caused over-eating... lack of excersize? Weight Gain?

Again... just passing along what is being speculated.

Good lord........we don't need another hole in the Oline.....
unless he is being a whiny pisspot girl about the demotion....then I say trade him for.....? Maybe a real TE?

Please let there be a good reason for this...

Buffalo's o-line will really suffer without MW. I really hope there is a legit explaination for this.

Lets wait and see why. It does seem fishy that the big story of day 1 is he gets demoted and then he does not show on day 2.

I actually disagree with this. The guy... at present... is as average as you get.

Would I like to have him back at RT? YES! Do I think it will make or break our season? No!

He is really immature if the reason he didn't show up was because of the (temporary) demotion. Come on Big Mike, please have a legit reason. Please! Make something up if you have to. Say you were bowling or something.

You should hear the guys on WGR55. They have a major controversy brewing with no evidence.

They think the players union told him to skip practice. Thier reason: Mularkey demoted him for missing the volantary camp in June.

I'd be happy it that were the reason. And he'd have a good point.

That can't and won't be the reason because he was excused by Mularkey to visit with and his now deceased Grandmother.

Why would he have a good point? Price outplayed him last season. It's about time someone is not just handed a job because of how much they make or where they were drafted

It’s a good point because I’d be pissed if I lost my job because I didn’t show up at an optional workday. And if that’s the case, then he’s got a legitimate beef.

I agree, I told clump at lunch that I thought the contract of somebody like Losman (with no year 1 signing bonus) was the way to go...sick of paying rookies with zero experience millions of $$$...if I were a vet I would be sickened by it...

Novacane

It thats the case thier timing in benching him was not smart. They should have waited until next week and then blamed in on his play which would have been legit because Price has played better than him.

Bulldog
08-02-2004, 03:31 PM
Say what you want about Williams, Buffalo is a better team with him starting at RT. In working with McNally, I really hoped Williams would come into his own this season. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the deal is.

Tucker?

Fine with me! Stick him at guard if he's better than pucillo or tucker. Someone said in another thread that its better to have a good overpayed guard than bad overpayed tackle and I agree

Sam Gash just called into thier show. He said his wife was listening so he decided to call in. He thinks that is why Williams was demoted and also thinks the union prolly did tell him to protest

I'm not speculating too much about what this all means. I do think that while Marcus Price is a very competent tackle, if Mike Williams is deemed not a serviceable starter, depth becomes a serious issue for the team.

I still don't think this is very serious. This is something GW would do w/o a decent reason, but no way MM would, he seems too reasonable and levelheaded to pull such a stunt unless he needed to, or had a good reason.

BTW, great title Fairway.

A union telling a millionaire to protest...please...if they want to play that way I would keep him out a couple of more days and then let him rejoin the first team and the first time he played half-heartedly I'd bust him down to the scout team for a month...

Don't forget Vincent in the union prez. I imagine he's involved.

Gash is going on and on about how hard it is.and players deserve the summer off etc etc.......

He ought to try going to a $10 and hour job with 1 week a year vacation and see how horrible it is then

According to BB.com

Excused from Afternoon Workout

Vice President of Communications Scott Berchtold addressed the media after this afternoon's practice stating that offensive tackle Mike Williams had been excused for personal reasons from this afternoon's practice, according to head coach Mike Mularkey. Williams took part in the team's morning workout. The Bills will return to the practice field on Tuesday, 2:45 - 5:15 p.m.
