From Mikey's report...

The practice started out with the kickers trying to make field goals. Rian Lindell was absolutely horrible. He was 2 for 6 in Field Goal attempts. He made only 2 short ones, but he missed from about 33, 38, 43 and 48 yards. His backup, Mike Shafer was not any better. His only field goal try was blocked.

They also said on GR that Hollis' back injury was career ending so he's not available

This bothers me more than any of the other problems. If he keeps this up TD has gotta cut him. You wouldnt keep a rookie that looks like this. What happened to this guy? He was pretty decent in Seattle and he comes here and sucks up the place.

Anybody know of some decent kickers out there?

I agree. We should've given him a chance to develop, like we did with Moorman. Graham looked pretty good last year, let's see him this year.

He was better than Lindell and quite a few others last year!

Anyone remember what Lindells signing bonus was? Wondering what the cap hit would be if we cut him.

there must be a team out there with a kicker competition. Pick up whoever they cut

FA Matt Bryant (CUT by Giants)
FA Steve Christie

Seth Marler, Jeff Chandler, and Josh Scobee are fighting for the Jags job.

Morten Andersen, and Lawrence Tynes are fighting for the Chiefs job. Tynes is winning it for now.

I'd take Matt Bryant right now! He was pretty good last year and can kick touchbacks sometimes. He had two last year. :D

Lindell made 70.8% of his FGs....Bryant made 78.6%! His longest was a 47 yarder and he hit 11 out of 14.

Can Moorman kick off with any distance? Id think about Christie only under those circumstances.

I wonder who leads the CFL in kicking

Scobee was the 2nd best kicker in the draft

I know. I was upset the Bills weren't able to get a shot at him.

Prediction:

Lindell will be the most hated Bill (by Bills fans) by week 8.

Let's bring Gary Anderson - who we cut 20+ years ago - out of retirement.

Just because S. Graham had a good year last year, doesn't make him a great kicker all of a sudden. He couldn't hit anything much over 40 yards when he was here and he sucked when he played for the Panthers two years ago even losing them a game because he missed about a 20 yarder.

I read in the paper yesterday that he made 3 of 6. Still not good but I wonder which was correct, 2 of 6 or 3.

Regardless, I believe we are getting way ahead of ourselves with some of the complaints and compliments being thrown around after one scrimmage. Even if Lindell sucks the rest of the preseason, we won't really see many good placekickers as free agents for at least two more weeks and probably three.

I wouldn't say Graham sucked for the Panthers. He did miss a short FG late in the game in his first game as a Panther that cost them a game. It was probably first game jitters. After that he settled downand did a good job. In last year's training camp he was great and went toe to toe with John Kasey. He hit everything and many felt he was going to take over the kicking job in Carolina. When Graham was cut he was immediately claimed by the Bengals. He did a great job for them last year.

I was under the impression that he played a lot worse for Carolina. I was wrong there. I always wondered why they never really showed much confidence in him in Buffalo. But I guess I should have thought about what coach I was talking about.

My guess the coaching staff and mgt felt more comfortable going with a veteran because Arians was a rookie and was awful and Graham did ok for them in 2001. The Bills picked up Hollis in 2002 and then Lindell in 2003. In hindsight, which is always much easier, it would of been better to bring back Graham and had him compete with Hollis for the 2002 season (which is what Carolina did last year and had kasey compete against Graham) instead of just letting him go.
