PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- As the Buffalo Bills ran through their first two offensive series of Saturday's scrimmage with Cleveland, general manager Tom Donahoe stood off to one side, arms folded and studied his star running back.

Normally, that would be Travis Henry. But on this cool, overcast morning, that designation belonged to Willis McGahee, returning to contact for the first time in 19 months.

As Donahoe looked on, McGahee put on a performance that can be described as neither overwhelming nor underwhelming. At first, he looked tentative, hitting holes without sound or fury. But after a handful of attempts, he began to look more like himself -- once slamming his left shoulder into a tackler as he dashed around right end.

When it was over, McGahee had seven carries for 34 yards and a touchdown. That was when the Bills started from their own 35-yard line. When they were in their goal-line offense, McGahee scored on all three carries.

"It felt real good to get hit," he said later. "I was a little nervous on the first series, but on the second series, when I kind of got in a rhythm, everything went good for me."
