Joe Theismann, as in Heisman, came to Notre Dame with a name that did not make for such a fortuitous football couplet.
Theese-man didn't rhyme with anything.
Promotional poetry, the merging of advertising and destiny, though, demanded a slogan that rolled right off the tongue.
Former Notre Dame sports information director Roger Valdiserri produced that with one minor adjustment in pronunciation.
That's Theismann, as in Heisman....
