ESPN'S HAIL MARY
It's almost kickoff — and inside the Super Bowl of football video games, these are the tense final moments before the smash-mouth begins.
On one sideline awaits "ESPN NFL 2K5," the optimistic underdog. But to the roar of its maniacal fan base comes juggernaut Electronic Arts' "Madden NFL Football 2005," set for a trumpeted national release on Tuesday.
JET: ESPN OK, BUT MADDEN'S THE MAN
New York Jets defensive back Ray Mickens, an avid videogamer, gives "Madden Football 2005" and "ESPN NFL 2K5" a test drive.
Graphics: "Both look good. Madden's a little smoother. It's close."
Realism: "In Madden, the quarterback can run around all day in the backfield. In real life, he's only got about five seconds, then he gets sacked. ESPN's realistic like that."
