    Another Dolphin Down

DAVIE, Fla. (Aug. 11, 2004) -- Miami Dolphins safety Chris Akins is expected to miss the season after undergoing knee surgery for torn ligaments.

Akins tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee Aug. 7 during a workout against Houston.

One of the top special-teams players for the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots last season, Akins signed a three-year contract with the Dolphins in March.

This is almost as bad as the 68 Bills.

They better pray one of their top defensive players don't get hurt. They would really be screwed then.

Not yet...Fiedler would have to go down for the year and Thomas would have to have a nagging injury that caused him to miss playing time...for starters.

While this sucks, it isn't as big a blow as Ricky, or Boston. Basically, he was a special teams player, a good one at that too. We have other people who can play special teams in his place though.

He was about third on the depth chart for our safeties, but that is misleading because one of our backups is hurt as well. But, we weren't counting on him in the nickel or dime packages or anything, strictly special teams for now. It does suck though.
