Bills RB Henry knocked out of preseason game

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) … Bills running back Travis Henry
bruised his ribs in Saturday night's preseason game against
Tennessee.

Henry was still feeling sore after Buffalo's 16-15 loss, and
said he isn't sure whether he'll practice when the team resumes
training camp on Monday.

"It's not good, but it couldn't have happened at a better
time considering it's still the preseason," Henry said.

Henry was hurt 10 minutes into the second quarter as he was
preparing to catch a pass. He took a hard hit and was knocked
over by Titans linebacker Keith Bulluck. In breaking up the
play at the Titans 20, Bulluck hit Henry high under his left
arm, sending him tumbling.

Henry lay on the field for a few minutes before being helped
up by a Bills trainer. Henry slowly walked off and was escorted
to a cart on the sideline and was then driven to the locker
room.

X-rays were negative, and Henry said he was hurt when he hit
the ground.

He said the pain is in the same spot as where he tore rib
cartilage in the third week of last season. Henry missed only
one game, electing to play through the pain.

"It's not nearly as bad," Henry said. "I'm breathing a lot
better and moving around a lot better. It's a little sore ...
but I think it's going to be OK."

Henry was having a strong game, with seven carries for 27
yards and a 3-yard reception.

Drew Bledsoe took the blame for putting Henry in an awkward
position, by forcing the pass into him after Bledsoe was
pressured out of the pocket.

"I probably should've given him the ball a little sooner.
Either that, or taking it and running myself," Bledsoe said.

Backup Willis McGahee took over, finishing with 11 carries
for 28 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown.

The injury comes at a time when there is plenty of attention
on the Bills' running backs. The Associated Press, citing a
source close to McGahee, reported Friday that the player has
asked to be traded if he is not the starter on opening day.

Bills president Tom Donahoe denied the report in an
impromptu news conference in the press box just before game
time.

Henry is a three-year starter for the Bills. He is coming
off his second straight season of 1,300 yards rushing. McGahee,
selected 23rd overall in the 2003 draft, is enjoying a strong
training camp after missing all of last season recovering from
reconstructive surgery on his left knee.

Henry hasn't been entirely happy either. He's said that he
doesn't want to be the backup, adding that he expects one of
them to be traded after the end of the season.

"I've pretty much said what I've had to say about the whole
situation," Henry said. "You all will have to ask Willis about
that."
