    Coy Wire...special teams or bust???

Coy Wire did not look good at all last night. Third year and probably not going to break the starting line up. He has not looked good in two preseason games so far. Is the only way for this guy to make it past 2004 is to make it on the special teams?? Is he a bust?

Coy just can't cover. He better stick to special teams at least what I have seen so far.

Yep. They are asking him to do something he can't. I don't blame the player for that.

Does anyone think that if they moved him back to SS now that he could knock Prioleau off the roster? Honestly, I don't see us keeping more than 4 Safeties
            Milloy is set at SS
Reese is probably our best option at the time being at FS
Baker looks strong as a backup FS
Has anyone else come out and really made a statement for a spot on the team? I'm thinking it might be down to Wire and Prioleau for one spot.

Wire is a bust at either Safety position. Plain and simple, he has no coverage ability. Nowadays you have to be able to cover top receivers at both positions. He is a great hitter and great special teams player but at some point you have to ask if he is worth taking up a valuable roster spot. I think that he has been given more opportunity than anyone that has been on the team in the last three years. Maybe it is time to cut our losses.

Some posters here think he will be the starter and will be great along side Milloy.. I think he plays too much like a LB and lacks the "MENTAL" alility of playing DB, I'd put him 3rd on the Depth chart at FS and would use him exclusively in short yardage situations and ST.

That's a good idea Juice. How did PP do out there? I think Reese is fine, and is a good part of our secondary. Baker continues to impress.

Reese isn't going to make the big mistake and get suckered in by Playaction, he also may not have 5 INT.'s each year but he will get into the mix and breakup alot of plays without getting flagged for Pass Interference.

I'll take good size and experience at FS in this Defense over another hard hitter and good Blitzer.

We will get more INT.'s when we find away to take opposing QB's out of their comfort Zone by applying pressure.

Until we can get that pressure This Defensive unit has enough athletes and "Good" tacklers, We need someone at FS that wont get beat with the Long Ball.

I agree, Baker has looked like a Baller.

I really want Coy Wire to succeed but he is a big liability to coverage when he is back there. If Baker continues to play well I can see Wire being the odd man odd...sorry Shelby
