There had been speculation that Flutie, 41, would be cut or traded by Sunday's deadline to reduce the roster to 53. Instead, the Chargers will carry four quarterbacks: incumbent starter Drew Brees, rookie Philip Rivers, Flutie and Cleo Lemon. more (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1875352)

Bills went the tough route when they realized they could not keep 4 QBs and have a viable roster. Chargers choose to make lemonade and keep their rookie QB from last year on active roster to protect him.

Lots more comments on other teams and their release of players including Bills.

Seriosuly what is a 4th QB's purpose? I would rather have a guy run down on special teams and attempt to make a tackle.

Trade bait

Nobody would trade with Chargers so they kept 4 QBs and show people they are serious that someone needs to trade to get one.

Either that or their WRs need LOTS of practice.

Clearly they're playing hardball with New England, who is craving for some Flutie Flakes.

Flutie, with his experience and ability to win games, is probably considered by the Patsies to be a much better backup QB candidate than either Jim Miller or Rohan Davie.
