    Eagles Sign Sciullo & Question

ESPN is posting the following from the AP:

"PHILADELPHIA -- Offensive lineman Steve Sciullo signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday after being waived by Indianapolis.

A fourth-round pick by the Colts last year, Sciullo started the first 12 games at right guard before going down with a neck injury. He was part of an offensive line that allowed just 19 sacks and helped running back
Edgerrin James run for 100 yards six times."

My question is: with the money that the Bills just spent to re-sign Schobel, could the team have afforded to go after a guy like this?

Sciullo is not that old--he played with Byron Leftwich at Marshall (he was one of the guys who carried Leftwich around the field when he hurt is leg)--and, as the article indicates, he must be able to play reasonably well: from his resume, certainly better than Pukecillo, who has been in the league just about as long, and possibly better than Lawrence Smith. So, one must wonder: if the team had wanted to sign him, would they still have had enough money to do so after signing Schobel? Or, did they just not try to go after him. Or,were they too busy with wrapping up Schobel that they didn't have time to make him a decent offer before the Eagles snagged him?
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. And, thus it was that they surrendered their freedom; not with a bang, but without even a whimper.

Could be a mix of both. The Bills probably had enough money to do so, but prolly didn't want to. Obviously McNally had a say if the Bills even considered him, and he must of turned him down. The Bills were also pounding out schobel's new contract at the time, and prolly didn't want to risk a hasty move, in quickly signing this guy.

The Eagles got him on a waiver claim. If Buffalo has wanted him, they could have put in a waiver claim and they would have been awarded him based on their worse record last year.

I doubt it was money. The Colts ate his bonus when they released him, so he will play this year for the $305K minimum a 2nd-year player makes.

The guy wasn't exactly a world beater. He lost his starting job last year.
