The Bills Defense was highly effective in the 3rd and 4th quarters when using different Blitz schemes against the YOUNG Leftwitch, why didn't we intensify that pressure in the final quarter and FINAL drive. We seemed to go to a conservative style Defense in the final quarter, as if we were sitting on a two touchdown advantage.
The Pressure was getting to the Young QB and he seemed to have difficulty making accurate reads and throws when dealing with different points of applied pressure. Byrons ability to deal with decisions in clutch situations was never tested his Rookie season because he was basically put in, last year, at a Time when he was playing to gain experience for this season.

Starting Left Defensive Ends, would it not have been to our advantage to at least test the YOUNG GUY to see if we could get him to make a mistake on that final drive? Everyone has seen what he can do as far as beating you with his arm, we needed to bring out his MENTAL weaknesses and inexperience.
We were getting good pressure from PP at SS, and Posey is, once again this year, not being used for what he was best for in Texas HIS PASS RUSH.
I think with an intensified effort from Both DE positions, some type of Rush from the SS, Coy Wire or PP, and Posey be used to his RUSHING STRENGTH, we could have rattled the SECOND YEAR QB and forced him to make much Quicker Mental Reads and adjustments and possibly causing a turnover or Sack.
The Issue of Coverage at SS needs to be delt with this week, its only a matter of time until, Gannon figures out that there is a huge coverage void in our secondary and exploits it. Wire wasn't a POSITIVE factor against the JAGS in the passing game in coverage or as a Biltzing SS, and I'd have to say that PP was a positive with a Half-a-Sack and not looking completly lost on pass plays. PP has played the position effectivly in the past and has much better instincts in reading Pass/Run situations.. He also uses more control in Run support as opposed to Over-running the play. PP should get more PLAY this Week with Gannon slinging the rock.. He should get the START. IMO
With a few issues addressed correctly I can see this Defense stepping up to the Top Defensive Unit that it was last year and with some well timed BLITZ Pressure I think they will even win a game or two for us with INT.s and fumble recoveries.. Not taking huge Gambles that cost the Game, but more Precision and Calculated Risks.
NOTE: TROY VINCINT was SOLID and that will be key to this seasons Defensive Dominance.. We will need him to play like a Pro Bowler against OAK. or Gannon will keep them in the game, and we can see what can happen on the LAST PLAY. :fury:
What will it take to get Posey involved in the pass rush and can Wire play an effective role from the SS position or is his lack of coverage ability going to be the the downfall of another Defensive effort, that as a whole was solid but failed to finish and expose the opposing QB's weaknesses.
Against the Raiders Vincint, Clements and our secondary will need to play the OAK. recievers tight coming off of the line, within the Five Yard Contact Zone, to keep them out of their comfort zone running their routes and connecting on those short quick completions that in the past have led to 2nd and 3rd down conversions. In the past these type of efficient run offenses have been successful against our Defenses and have ended up in loss situations not only against Gannon, but also facing quick hit offenses like the Pats and the Chiefs.
This week against the Raiders we aren't facing a Second year signal caller, like Leftwich, but a seasoned veteran in Gannon that will need to be taken out of his comfort zone with a balanced blend of Pressure and Tight shutdown Corner play and Safety play to limit deep options when the Deep ball isn't available.
I'm not of the mindset that Gray hasn't the ability to be aggressive in Blitzing but that he was somewhat dependent on the calls of LeBeau of last season to institute those calls in Blitz situations and create the pressure on opposing QBs.. Gray will have to show that he has the Mentality to finish the games in which the opposing offense hasn't the ability to handle the intense pressure of a Defense that can be Physically dominating, both up front and in the Secondary.
