Are we guilty of overhyping the talent on this team?

I'm starting to think that we've all fallen victim to our very own hype. Half the players on this team are not near the players we want them to be. Pick a position and evaluate the player that is really playing to the level of their compensation. If your like me, then you might be able to come up with a half dozen players that really belong as starters. What's most frightening is that our stud playmaker is our fricken punter. Our OL and DL are well below adequate and they guy who was supposed to be our stud RT appears to be walking the bust line. We've got two fat slow DT's that can't get pressure on a QB to save thier lives.

This is so fricken sad and dissappointing. I've had it.

No, the coaching staff is guilty of not using it to the best of its abilities.

LOL, what happened to this being only Drew's fault? :liar2:

Our DT aren't supposed to rush the QB! Shoebel was nowhere today and our other end is utter crap!

Mistakes hurt this team every single time on offense. Our receivers totally suck. These idiots are chomping on the Colonel's extra crispy on the sidelines.

        Yes and no.

I think there is some very good talent on this team, but not in the right places. There isn't enough on the O-line and QB, which pretty much kills the O IMO and also there isn't enough smart players on the D although I think I may be wrong and it could be the coaching more at fault.

I also think that there are a lot of players in their early 30's (Sam, Pat, Moulds, Milloy) that are hitting their respectful downsides, just when we needed this thing to come together.

I have long been saying that this team is overhyped by its fans.

Coming into this season (and it still stands), I'd rank our units as:
QB - below average (20-25th best)
RB - above average (right around 10th best)
TE - below average (20-25th best)
OL - horrid (one of the 5 worst)
WR - average (somewhere in the 10-20 range)
DL - above average (right around 10th)
LB - excellent (about 5th best)
DBs - really good (about 6-10th best)
STs - average (great P, bad K, average returners)
          And our overall depth stinks.

          That's not a good team.

It's more complicated than that, actually. The fact is, the NFL and its fans (and many GMs, including Donahoe) overvalue skill positions at the expense of the o-line. You have to pay a "great" QB far more than you have to pay a "great" o-lineman, and I posit that the latter is more important than the former. Donahoe has neglected the o-line for his entire tenure (he lucked out with Lawrence Smith, or imagine where we'd be!), and he's instead focused on the "blue chip" picks at the skill positions. As a result, we have all kinds of skill players who don't get the opportunity to make plays or win games because the o-line is so bad that most plays on offense are doomed to fail before they start. Donahoe is too clever for his own good - we need to can him and bring in a guy with a K.I.S.S. philosophy.

I agree with most, except I think our WRs are above average but can't do much because of the pass rush; and I think our DBs are overrated.

Agreed. Although I think WM brings the RB score a little closer to excellent. I know that sounds premature, but he just isn't getting the reps he needs to get in a groove. All I know is that I saw him make a move today on someone that TH could never have made, but it was called back due to holding. He needs more reps.

I here ya. I think it was the end of the 1st or the beginnig of the second when Willis had a nice 7 or 8 yard gain. He started up the middle but nothing was there so he bounced to the outside, made a nice move on a guy and powered up field. I figured it was Henry making a great move but then I hear the announcer say it was Willis.

I had said pretty much the same things in the offseason and I was trying to stay neutral last week ... I was giving the team the benefit of the doubt that it was the first game with the new regime and everything - and at least it looked like there was some effort.

This week was horrid, no effort at all.
