For those that want to Matthews or Jack Kemp or anyone but you know who at QB right now, consider this: Matthews is not mobile. What he'd be running would be a dink and dunk offense- the kind we ran in week 1 which was criticized for the lack of big plays. Rest assured, Matthews is not going to throw downfield and he won't magically make the line better. The thing is: dink and dunk, with 60% running and maybe 2-3 shots downfield is doable for this offense with Drew at QB. The problem is we didn't do that yesterday. We tried to throw too much and never established a running game. This line can't support that. Put in Losman when he's healthy and you'll get a guy that can evade the rush much better but will make some mistakes under pressure and get picked as most rookies do.

I think a dink and dunk with a few shots downfield is basically what Carolina does, and their line is much better than ours. It's also what NE did a few years ago when Brady was a rookie and they won the SB. What you need to get for that to work is YAC from the WR's and a solid running game. In the first 2 games Moulds has not really stepped up, nor has Reed. Moulds is still a capable receiver but Woodson shut him down yesterday 1 on 1 for much of the contest. If he doesn't start catching the ball and making more plays he's going to become a Ruben Brown Pro Bowler. Reed was for the most part his usual invisible self. Henry was to cleats yesterday what Thurman was to helmets. If the receivers and RB's do their parts a conservative offense can yield 17-20 pts per game, which should win most of the time with this D.
