Have you already gotten any advice/suggestions from your family doctor or school coach? (I'm not trying to be condenscending or anything, but at your age you need to be really careful. You don't want to mess up your health or development).

I'm still trying to gain weight... about two months ago I weighed 150 even, and am now up to 158 as of a few minutes ago. :D

The thing that helped me most was cutting back on smoking, bigtime. I even quit for almost a whole month.. but now I only drink when I'm smoking, and I think it has helped me put on a few. I also took mybills advice and started eating a lot of pasta and breads. :supper:

Believe me, I'm in a Catholic school, if I'm caught sleeping, they'll give me a drug test. I'm not smoking...

as for pasta, I hear that's great too. I'm not italian, so the only pasta I get is from the italian restaurant every 3rd week.

and no sports, I was underweight for football, and baseball isn't till spring.

hmmm.... try increasing your carbs, but stay active... you don't want to end up with alot of fat. Other than that, I'm not sure about what you should do. What kind of meals do you eat at home?

OpIv37

lift weights and use protein supplements afterwards- that will pack on muscle. If you're really that thin, you won't have to work very hard to add muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat. Don't use those weight gain supplements though- those things are worthless.

Also watch your cholesterol- sounds stupid at your age, I know, but I have a friend who's 25, underweight, and has high cholesterol. McDonalds 2-3 times a week probably won't hurt you, but don't start eating it every day just to add the pounds.

I did get have a talk with my doctor a year ago. She said that she never met a adult that wanted to gain pounds, but she said it'd be good if you gained a little bit of weight.

I do eat breakfast, which is usually cereal. I did get screwed over for lunch period at school--10 AM lunch and usually I just rotate between eating a couple of snacks with Pepsi and having a snack and a pizza with Pepsi. It's pretty easy to get filled up, and when I get home, I'm starving. Dinner usually consists of some sort of meat (chicken and steak) with some side order. There's variety, but we've tried so much, I can't really remember. Plus, we don't have the greatest chefs in the world, so something new tends to be horrible. I am now trying to add chips and pretzels to eat when I get home. So yep, I guess I do eat less than the average kid.

NOW: 94 lbs.

it will be officially a week tommorrow. I'm in trouble. I ate like crazy, but still didn't managing to gain much. Don't really know what else to do. I had granola bars with 170 calories, 300 calorie ice cream bars (not many, didn't realize it till today), chips, pretzels. I didn't completely eat like crazy, but I had more than I'm use to. Unless I gain a lbs. by 8:00 PM tommorrow, I guess I fail week 1 :(

Don't think of it as failing. It may take a few weeks for you to start to see a difference. ESPECIALLY if you're still really active, while you've started eating more. Patience.

Monday, week 2 official in 24 hours: 96 lbs.
3 lbs in 2 weeks, which is about 1 lb less than I want to be at the moment.

I found out that if you have a chocolate milk shake (and I hate chocolate) with 3 eggs, it makes you gain weight pretty fast. Should be 4 cups worth. This is the first day I found this out. So far I've gained 1 pound today. I'm still full from when I drank it 1 hour ago. I think I drank more than 4 cups. I'm going to do this for the next week, we'll see my results. I also did some work on the work out machine on my upper body.

8 weeks left, 14 lbs. to go!

Well, today I weighed myself, and I'm 101 lbs. I've put on 4 lbs. in 1 month.

As of Febuary 6th, I've been working out. I've gained 20 lbs. on my Bench Press, 20 lbs. on my LAT Pull-Down, and 10 lbs. on my Butterfly in lifting ability. I've had 2 protein bars, and I have soy mix in protein shake everyday. I do notice a much bigger appeitie, and my chest, abdominal, and shoulder muscles have grown. I just started biceps yesterday. I hope to be about 120+ by beginning of next year's school year. I should also be about 5'9 by then, so I probably won't see much improvement in my bulk size until about January next year.

Here's the best advice right here: Eat something before going to bed. Doesn't have to be healthy, just eat then sleep. I do that everynight do to munchies but I'm not fat. I'm at a good 145 at age 16.

WAS: 101 lbs. (Sept. 20)
NOW: 101 lbs.
GOAL: 120 lbs.
GAINED: 9 lbs. (April 9)

I've gained 9 lbs. in 7 months. I don't know how good that is?! I am now 5'8" (projected to be 5'11"). I turn 15 in June. I work out a lot. This is what I can do

Butterfly: 14 reps of 25 lbs.
Bench Press: 24 reps (3 sets) of 45 lbs.
Abdominal muscles, I have a routine (which I cheated on this week), which are hard as can be.
30 pulses (2 sets)
50 reverse crunches
50 crunches
6 one to the left, one to the center, one to the right.
8 stationary left crunches
8 stationary right crunches
8 to the center crunches (both sides)
8 to the right crunches
8 to the left crunches
I do have a six pack when I lower my back, and contract my muscles. I don't have a fat belly, can anyone explain that to me? Is that normal?
Biceps Weights: 50 reps of 15 lbs. (each side)

Anyway, I'm not satisfied, but any improvement is fine with me.

If you're packing on fat, you're really killing yourself, but if you're bulking for football, and gain lbs from muscle, that's a good thing. Of course, a lb a day isn't good either.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. :D

So who else is gaining weight?all the reps with light weight is for toning, if you want to gain muscle you need to do less reps with more weight. you need to tear the muscles up so they can rebuild stronger. try doing 3 sets of 10 - 12 reps with a heavier weight where you struggle to get the last couple out. just my opinion and what has worked for me in the past. change your routine every so often you and your body will get bored with the same work out. do 3 exercises for each body part, do regular bench, incline and decline bench, use dumbells for bench sometimes, do different kinds of curls for your biceps, hammer curls twist curls, use a preacher bench. dont forget about your triceps, although biceps look the best your tris are actually bigger muscles. add some shoulders back and legs to your work outs too. you really only need to do each body part once a week. like i said this is what has worked for me in the past.

too many reps.. 6-8 reps per set with higher intensity and heavier weights as long as you do the workouts correctly and under control.
Your genetics are like that, it doesn't matter how much you eat, you won't get a belly.. you have high metabolism.. once you're 21-23 you're gonna have to start watching your diet cuz thats when it slows down but right now dont worry about what you eat, just keep it under control.

I suggest you read two books, "Brawn" and "Beyond Brawn", authors name is Stuart McRobert. They are training manuels for normal people and not the genetically superior. From what you have described you have the ectomorph body type which means you have a hard time putting on weight and keeping it on. TypicalBill is right, you want to do 6's and 8's with balls to the wall intensity to pack on muscle, but there are some theories that say to wait until you're 16 before you train heavy. The reason being your bones are still growing and training heavy can retard that growth. I would talk to a doctor that deals with sports medicine to be safe. You can still weight train and load up on the protein and complex carbs. Hope this helps.

seriously, the only way I'll ever get down to 120 is if I take a 6-month vacation to Auschwitz.

Even if I stopped eating anything fatty and stopped lifting weights to get rid of the muscle mass, I don't think I could get below 155 or 160 without having internal organs removed.

don't worry, your metabolism will change.

When I was in college, I drank 2-3 nights a week, ate fried food in the dining hall every day, and drank 4-6 Mt Dews/Pepsis every day and I gained about 10 pounds in 4 years.

Now, I can gain 10 pounds in 2 months if I'm not careful.

But it's not an unattainable goal, right? 30 lbs in a year? That's a little more than 2 lbs a month. I don't have to look like ****ing Brad Pitt in Fight Club, or have to squat like Ronnie Coleman, but I just want to look normal for a while.

it's tough but it could be done. 30 pounds of pure muscle, I doubt that can be done in a year without steroids, but if you put on fat too it can be done.

what you need to do is when you work out, work your muscles to failure on every set. Then take whey protein and vitamins within 20 minutes of finishing your workout.

And eat high-protein meals 4-6 times a day. And don't overdo the cardio cuz you'll burn calories that would otherwise go towards increasing your weight.

Whey. Buy ON Whey, 5 lbers, have one in the morning and after workouts when I do. I figured I'd get some creatine for Christmas. That should put on major weight, like 10 lbs of water weight or something.
