No matter what, the cap hit for all 10 draftees will be $5.6 million- a number set by the league for the rookie pool. The Bills had one of the league's higest, (excluding the Texans) because of the number of picks and how hight the Bills were drafting.

If it is a 6 year deal, and considering the Bills were MUCH under the cap next season, I don't think there will be that much a detrimental impact.

That is also the reason you see most teams settling the late round picks first, then work their way up to the #1. It dictates exactly what the #1 pick will get for year 1- what ever is left under the rookie pool

OK, but what about the cap number for this year? I'm wondering how much they have left to work with to possibly sign a FA defensive lineman?

Clumpy has said this on numerous occasions-

IF the Bills wanted to, they can restructure a number of contracts to get another big name player. It would hurt the cap down the road (a la Butler) but it is possible.

There aren't a lot of good DL left. Sam Adams leads the pack but is squeezing the last dimes out of clubs like Cincy and Seattle. I don't want a guy like that on the club, regardless of talent. Gardner of Miami is available, but reports indicate that this guy is a HUGE bum- his own team mates in Miami wanted him out.

Ahanoutou? Maybe, but he's here only on vet minimum. Not much cap space needed for that.

With camps opening, the Bills will probably sit and wait for camp cuts if they will persue someone else

The Bills can indeed do anything they want. Their is plenty of flexibility. Bills could cut someone like TE Sheldon Jackson and save $263,000 (top 51 rule: $563,000-300,000).....OR they could trade Bryson and save the same amount. Bills could extend Riemersma or Pat Williams to save about $1 million each......OR they could convert salary to bonus (which is the way BUTTler got us in cap trouble).

Present cap situation: Bills ARE under the cap Seriously, folks, I haven't seen confirmed numbers on all the draft picks yet, so I cannot say exactly where we are.......I suspect about $1-1.5 million. I'll have more soon

I have the Bills about $1.8 mil under the cap for the top 51 salaries on the roster. Of that $1.4 mil the Bills will need around $600,000 for players 52 and 53 leaving $1.2 mil. However, I have not been able to find the numbers on Ryan Denney's contract. TD has already said he would like a buffer of about $1.0 mil. So, at this point unless they cut a big name player or restructure a contract or two my bet is that the team you see if the team you will get.
