At the end of the game, when Rod Gardner caught that pass with 4 seconds left and couldn't get out of bounds, why couldn't he catch the ball and intentionally fumble it out of bounds? Wouldn't that stop the clock?

There is a rule against fumbling intentionally-

Besides- he caught the ball and was instantly popped by the defender. No chance to do anything

he has to make a "football move" to show control. To throw the ball out of bounds he would have to have done it before getting popped by Williams...never would have happened.

Probably would have backfired on him like when Shaw was trying to prove he caught the ball last year....they would have called it incomplete due to lack of control.
