Our D is still ranked 5th overall.

What's it all mean? I was bored and looked up some numbers, that's what.

    Current D overall is:

    3rd against the run

    7th against the pass

    10th in points allowed.

With the way the secondary is playing, that's pretty good to still be ranked that high. By comparison, NE and the Jests are right there with us in total points allowed per game, with 17 and 15 ppg, but their O scores enough so that it's not an issue.

Looking at our 17.7 ppg allowed average, it's right in there with where we've been:
    23 ppg in 2002.
    17 and change 2003
(If I recall, it was around 19 in 2001.)

    Our run stopping has improved:
    130 ypg in 2002
    100 ypg 2003
    91 this year.

Our passing not so much so:
191 passing yards game in 2002
    169 last year
    180 this year

    In take-away/give away
    -12 in 2002
    -16 in 2003
    0 so far this year.

    3rd down conversions stopped:
    41% in 2002
    38% in 2003
    36% so far

Like we are already knew, the O has gotten worse:

    Points scored:
    23 ppg in 2002
    15 ppg in 2003
    12 ppg this year.

    Rushing:
    4.1 per carry/99 ypg, with 10 runs of 20 or more yards - 2002
    3.9 per carry/104 ypg, with 6 runs of 20 or more yards - 2003
3.7 per carry/100 ypg with 3 runs of 20 or more yards - so far

    3rd down conversion rate
    42.5% in 2002
    31.6% in 2003
    35% so far

    Penalties (by the O):
    112 for 1031 yards in 2002
    106 for 891 in 2003
44 for 410 so far this year.

Overall worst trend is that we still have a 1 TD gap between points allowed and points we score. 1 more TD a game and we have a better shot at a winning record. That's pathetic.

Back to 1999/00/01, we had the same problem. allow 21 points a game, only score 19. Allow 19 points a game, only score 14, etc.

ONE FREAKING TD! Stopping the run and being able to run the ball are key. Start Willis this Sunday, coach.

    I'm better now.

In all fairness, the D was bad in the first half. But, the D was bad in the second half. They held the Baltimore O to zero yards in the 3rd Qtr. and a bunch of 3 and outs in the 4th.

            Well....Then a Change....

.....ANY CHANGE...at QB looks to be in order. Bledsoe obviously can't hide the defects to our O-Line! We should try any other QB,....no personal preference as to who.... He might not waste the overall fine performance by our Defence.

Im not sure if what Im going to say makes any sense, but our defense is ranked very high because our offense sucks.

Because we're always behind, you'll never see the opposing team's offense have to take risks, make big plays, throw the ball alot, etc... They just grind the rest of the game, and the stats make our defense look better than what it really is.

Just look at the last game for an example. The first half was just putrid (my god, McGee looked terrible covering Travis Taylor, and our defense made Boller, Chester Taylor and Musa Smith look pretty good). But when the second half started and we were down 17-6, the Ravens pretty much put it into shutdown mode.

14 yards...not bad for a half of football...

hey, at the beginning of last year, I was asked to give GW a chance...I did. By game 6 I threw him under the bus...same with DB this year.

Yep. Drew finally lost my "confidence" in him w/ this last game. Seeing him stink it up in person had more of a negative effect on me I think.

                          Goodbye Drew!

It would take a whole hell of a lot of effort and production by Drew to change my mind on this... and I don't see it happening... sadly.

if you take away two TD's given up by our offense, the PPG given up by our D is only 15.333333333...
My faith doesn’t make me perfect, it makes me forgiven.

This D still lacks big play ability that is needed to make up for the horrible O. Otherwise it would be enough for any team that has at least a halfway decent O.
