Marcus Jones is a veteran pass rushing specialist who has experience playing at every position across the defensive line … Ranks seventh on the club's all-time sack list with 24 career sacks … Savvy talent who has unmatched power and speed … Lined up at LDE in 2001 to make room for Simeon Rice after playing on the right side the prior two seasons (1999-2000) … Has started in 31 of his last 32 regular season games … Had just 32 tackles and one sack in his first three NFL seasons, but can boast 125 tackles and 23 sacks in his last three seasons (1999-2001) … Has totaled 157 career tackles, 24 sacks, five passes defensed, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles … Has seen action in 84 career games with 39 starts.

Notes:

*At North Carolina, he broke Lawrence Taylor's school record for sacks

*As a senior, was first UNC consensus first team All-America in 12 years (DE William Fuller, 1983) and was only Atlantic Coast Conference player to accomplish that in '95.

*Was also ACC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-ACC choice.

*. First Tar Heel since Lawrence Taylor (1980) to be named conference player of the year and first UNC player since Natrone Means (1991-92) to earn back-to-back first-team All-ACC accolades

*Also was semi-finalist for Lombardi Trophy

*I think he will fit in well at buffalo...

Why did he start only 8 games in the first 4 seasons of his career? Is he an injury puppy?

How much did we pay for him?

He was going to be the Bucs starter at DE this year until he got hurt. if he is good enough to start for their "D" then he is good enough to start here(if he can fully recover)

*in madden 2003 video game he is rated 80 overall(Big pat is an 83, schobel is a 69 i belive, and office is 67, Ahanatu is a 73.)

Wys,

Jones signed through 2004 with no signing bonus. He receives the pro-rated vet minimum for this season, which means he counts for $185,294.12 against the cap. In 2003 he has a $250K roster bonus (due 3/1) and a $1.275M base salary for a $1.525M cap figure. In 2004 he has a $250K reporting bonus and a $1.5M base salary for a $1.75M cap figure. There is an escalator clause in 2004 should he hit certain incentives, which could push the cap figure way up and force a new contract.

According to it, he was drafted in '96, and only started in 8 games over the first 4 seasons of his career. He does have 39 starts, but apparently most of those were over the last two seasons.

I'm just curious. I never paid much attention to him while he was at T.B. But it's just like TD to go get more "one man's trash is another man's treasure" type of guys. It's fine if he works out and can play. I hope we're not simply looking for yet another "bargain" and he doesn't work out. He'll be 30 next season.

He did have 13 sacks in 2000 and that's more than some of our DE's have in a few seasons.

He looks like a quality pick up to me for next season, depending on how he recovers
