    For the stats nerds-

    a little exercise for you:

You constantly assert that the Bills are not much better this year. Well, I challenge you to demonstrate how, statistically, the Bills are NOT improved compared to last year.

From my recollection, the woebegone 2001 Bills were rock bottom on offense and defense. From my recollection, the 2002 Bills are a high-rated offensive team, and their D has from a yardage standpoint improved recently to the point where it's probably better. Special teams? Clear improvement.

The only aspect of the team that may not be improved this year is the Bills inability to take the ball away.

So, stats geeks- prove your point, using the entire season to date as a reference, NOT using selected games carefully picked to prove your baseless theories!
Argue like hell. Keep it clean. And when it's over, shake hands and root for our team!

Is that the best you can do? These stats alone cannot meet the burden of establishing that this team is worse than or the same as last year.

Since you don't list them, the following categories must show improvement from last year, or else you would have produced the numbers:

            offensive points per game
            offensive passing yardage
            defensive rushing yardage allowed
            defensive sacks
            turnover ratio
            all special teams categories
            point differential

These categories and the statistical improvement shown by the Bills would tend to demonstrate that the Bills are improved as a team.

If you're going to assert that statistically this team is worse than or the same as last year, you need alot more than what you posted to meet your burden of proof, Wys.

              Judge,

You'd make a terrible used car salesman!

              Here's your line of reasoning:

"Here, take this bag of ALPO! It's much tastier and healthier than this bag of crap! I think you'll enjoy eating it much more!"

              Good logic! Sound reasoning!

BTW, I noticed that you didn't come back to answer the other question in the other thread that you started in on...

Also, these rankings are partially meaningless. We should be looking at how our team has compared yard-for-yard or point-for-point and not ranking vs. ranking.

Ie., we are allowing more points that we did last year and we're supposed to be better this year.

              HELLOOO!!!

Hey McFly- I have a life and can't spend all day or night watching this board.

The Bills are clearly better in so many aspects of their game that they've drastically improved overall since last year. Even the statistics bear that out.

Are they allowing more points per game? Yeah, slightly. But they're scoring alot more than last year, which makes them dramatically improved as a team. Your stats you cited hardly show the full picture, which exposes your argument for what it is.

Looking at the stats. and by watching the games I can tell 4 things.

                  1) The offense is much improved.
                  2) Special Teams are improved.
                  3) And the defense is the worst defense I have ever seen out of the Buffalo Bills.
                  4) The Head Coaching is worse then it was last year. Even with better talent GW can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag. He will coach his way out of a job though.

                    Agreed TD!

Overall with the lack of using the rushing game properly, I would have to say that this team from an overall perspective is only marginally improved over last year considering all of that as a whole.

Just doing a quick statistical check concerning scoring.

NFL Teams (not counting Houston) are averaging 22.1 ppg this year compared to 20.2 last season, a difference of 9%.

Buffalo is allowing 28.6 ppg this year compared to 26.3 last year, a difference of 9%. That’s consistent with the NFL average so numbers wise our D is the same.

We are scoring 26.4 ppg this year compared to 16.6 last year, a difference of a whopping 59%.

Show me again how we are worse off.

                        Brilliant analysis, Eric!

Wys- do you understand now how insightful analysis can be when it isn't manipulated and abused to prove flawed premeses?
