I heard on the radio that Jerry Grey is interested in the head coaching spot at Syracuse, and is one of the big names in the drawing.

I hope to God he doesn't go, this defense has improved every year under him, and he's developed young players very good, as well as having older players step it up.

Great.

I hope he stays as well. One bad thing is that the new AD at SU wants to recreate the style of program at USC - i.e., with a pro coordinator running the show.

The owner of the other board could coach this defense. I wouldn't worry about Grey leaving, I'm still not impressed. Anyone watch the 4th quarter of the last game?

I bet Jack in Syracuse had something to do with this.

I remember after the first few games a lot of people were begging for TD to fire him. :chuckle:

If Jerry Grey moves on, my guess is Don Blackmon gets a promotion to DC. I think he would be fine.

the last thing we need is for grey to leave. we've got a good thing goin with our def...he's crucial to the continued success of it, my opinion anyway.

I would love to see Jerry Grey stay, but if he does go, Don Blackmon has ample experience as an assistant coach, he's also been a DC before, and he knows Buffalo's defense. I think at least a level of continuity would be preserved, asside from the fact that he brings a lot to the table.

Exactly. He will be in line for some NFL jobs here soon. Dont think he will leave for Cuse.

He's interested in the job, and the Bills have given Syracuse permission to speak to him about it.

I hope he doesn't leave. We need to keep as much of this D together for as long as possible. Just get some OL in here and off we go.

Keep Gray's "interest" in perspective. Last year, he interviewed for the Bills HC job, and later admitted that he was really not prepared for the questions they asked in the interview. He did not have a plan for the team, etc.

I think Jerry will go through the interview process to polish his interview skills in preparation for a future NFL HC interview. Also, NFL execs see this kind of news and it gets/keeps Gray in their minds for future openings. Gray is still a relative unknown, and needs all the pub he can get if he wants a more prominent NFL job at some point.

I only hope that Gray is not being interviewed as a "token minority", as I am not sure if the NCAA has any kind of rules regarding those issues as the NFL does. He deserves the interview based on his accomplishments and abilities not because of the color of his skin.

Didn't JG actually interview with Texas last year?

As both a Bills and 'Cuse season ticket holder, I'm torn. He would have to be an improvement over Pasqualoni with the Orange, but he's doing a good job with the Bills, too.

My guess is that SU goes with an offensive guy and JG stays put.
