    Bills shoulda stayed in bed

DON'T GET ME STARTED watched the Buffalo Bills put it all together. Alas, it was not in a win but in a loss to the Jets that saw all the Bills units: Offense; Defense and Special Teams contributing to put the Jets in the AFC East title chase.

A host of Buffalo Bills won't be looking at others to find out what caused the 31-13 shellacking administered by Ted Cottrell and the Jets. It almost seemed as if the Jets scripted the Soap Opera, titled "Self Destruction." The Monday movies will tell the story, but let's give a preview of those "stars" who took the stage at the Meadowlands in a ½ star performance. If there were awards for "Self Stoppers" – the Bills trophy cases would be full.

    SHORT SUMMARY
One would think that the Bills would be ready for this one after outplaying, but losing to the Jets in the opening game of the season. They had Curtis Martin in check in several recent games but not in this one. The Bills, in their most important game of the season failed to convince one and all that they have rebounded from earlier losses. Sunday morning they were contending for the AFC title with a 5-5 record and in control of their own destiny. That's over. The Bills are now in last place in the AFC East and even wins against Miami and New England won't give them a chance unless they get help from other teams. That's not likely to happen.

The Bills can now begin the chant, "Gentlemen – start your pencils and bring out the "Draft Chart." Put up another board with names of free agents for next year. Let's hope this Marcus Jones is the real thing after surgery for next season.

The guy who is having the last laugh today is Ted Cottrell. The former Bills defensive coordinator had his guys up and ready and they responded by holding the Bills to only one touchdown. That's the third straight week that the Bills offense hasn't been able to score more than a single touchdown. Cottrell might have been looking across the field toward Jerry Gray and Gregg Williams thinking, "Gotcha!!!!" ...MORE...
