Packers to Strip GM from Sherman's Title

Green Bay Packers president Bob Harlan is poised to strip coach Mike Sherman of his general manager duties and pursue Seattle Seahawks vice president of football operations Ted Thompson for the job, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Thursday.

Two National Football League sources who are familiar with the Packers said it was widely known in NFL circles that Harlan is prepared to split the duties and make a run at Thompson, the newspaper reported.

Meanwhile, in an article published Thursday in Gannett's Wisconsin newspapers, PackersNews.com reported that the Packers are pursuing Thompson as a candidate to head their football operations.

Thompson was pro personnel director and director of player personnel for the Packers in 1992-99.

In a third article, the Wisconsin State Journal in Madison quoted two NFL sources as saying that if Harlan decides to take the GM duties from Sherman, Thompson would be a strong candidate for the position.

Packers president Bob Harlan plans to strip coach Mike Sherman of his general manager duties and is targeting the Seahawks' Ted Thompson as a replacement, a Green Bay team source told The Associated Press on Thursday.

So, another coach with power is about to lose it. Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins hired Nick Saban and gave him ultimate power. I wonder how long that will last for.
