The owners aren't getting it.

Yeah the players are wrong because a cap is needed.
But a cap without TRUE revenue sharing is nothing more than making the big markets really rich, and the small markets breaking even or barely profitable. And the players know this, and they have a point.

Without revenue sharing, aka the NFL, the players will be giving up large salaries, and the owners will pocketing the money.

A luxury tax is NOT revenue sharing. It is just spending more money and distributing the scraps that fall off the table to the other 31 teams. Big freakin deal.

True gate, TV, and merchandise revenue sharing is needed for the NHL to become what it can become, a major sport.

The problem is the large market owners don't want to give up their large share of the pie and you don't even hear the term revenue sharing mentioned. My guess is that this their concession in not asking to eliminate guaranteed contracts. Keep playing like you don't care, and let us make our wads of money, the large market teams say.

The small market teams have no say, they just want a cap.

And the players are not going to give up their large salaries only to allow the large market teams to pocket 40-50 million per season.

Revenue sharing is the missing point here, and it's the owners and the NHL along with Bettman who are ignoring it. Bettman has often downplayed revenue sharing saying it's not possible in the NHL. Bull****. The reason it's not possible is that there are some very powerful owners unwilling to give up their piece of the pie to the small markets.

And so here we are. Both players and owners are at fault. But don't downplay the owners lack of a true proposal that makes sense. The NHL and Bettman need to be held accountable.
I'm sure if something that made sense were out there, something would be happening right now. It's the owners that want the whole piece of the pie AND hold all the cards. Ultimately, they will end up with less. A watered down product and fan base, essentially, AHL franchises in NHL cities.
