The Green Bay Packers celebrated with one of their injured bright young tackles on Wednesday while praying for the other.

Right tackle Mark Tauscher, who is out for the year with a knee injury, became the team's second potential free agent to secure a long-term deal when he signed a six-year extension to stay in Green Bay.

Left tackle Chad Clifton, meanwhile, was flown from Tampa to Green Bay, where he remains hospitalized with a serious pelvis injury following Warren Sapp's blindside hit that touched off an uproar across the league.

UPDATE

Packers tackle Chad Clifton is still weeks away from walking and might need an operation to insert a metal plate into his pelvis.

A decision to operate won't be made for another month, Green Bay coach Mike Sherman said Monday.

He also said it's too soon to tell if Clifton will have any long-term effects from the pelvis injury he sustained when was blindsided by Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp on an interception return Nov. 24 and had to be taken off the field on a body board.

UPDATE:

- Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Chad Clifton, who was injured by a block by Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp 10 days ago, on Wednesday was placed on injured reserve.

The blindside hit left Clifton with sprained ligaments in his hip and substantial bleeding into the pelvic area. He is out for the season and may need surgery.

Chad Clifton vows to return to the Green Bay Packers and insists he doesn't hold a grudge against Warren Sapp.

Still, he wishes Sapp had called him in the hospital after delivering the blind-side hit that left Clifton with a career-threatening hip injury.

"I'm not bitter toward him. You assume the risks when you play this game," Clifton said in his first extensive interview since he was hurt in November. "It was a perfectly legal hit. I honestly don't think he went out trying to hurt me purposely."...more (http://espn.go.com/nfl/news/2003/0306/1519492.html)
