He was the Cards second selection in the first round (21st overall) of the 1999 draft. Here's a link to his bio from the NFL site:

I like this move if it does end up happening.

Basketball?! Just imagine posting up against him. You'd get stuck in his butt crack.

This guy might be a steal- and he is an ex-Basketball guy which means he probably has good footwork.

With both players being ranked top 51 in the League that are involved in this potential trade, I'd say the Bills are getting the better end of this deal. Re-Work his contract and he might only cost about 2 million/yr.. thats cheap for a starting LT that has been battle tested in the League. Beats paying Jonas 8-10 Million- JJ stays injured too much and LJ has stays pretty-much injury free.

Shelton was the #21 overall pick that year. The Cards had 2 1st round picks in 1999, the other being the #8 pick they used to select David Boston.

That #8 pick was the extra pick they received the year prior from San Diego as part of the Ryan Leaf trade.

The #21 pick was their own, as Arizona made the playoffs in 1998 (believe it or not, they were 9-7).

Wow- I don't even know where to begin with the bad decisions you mentioned in this post. A #8 for David Boston and trading a draft pick for Ryan Leaf (esp. one that resulted in a good O-lineman)? This sounds like a GM's worst nightmare.

Boston was the draft pick they got from San Diego. It was the final pick in the trade, which occured in the 1998 draft. The Chargers traded their #1 and #2 in 1998 and their #1 in 1999 along with 2 players to get Leaf.

Shelton was the Cardinals own pick.

The trade down so San Deigo could get Ryan Leaf netted the Cardinals DE Andre Wadsworth, S Corey Chavous, WR David Boston, RB Eric Metcalf and LB Patrick Sapp.l

Yet another great QB decision by the Chargers

Yeah, he's got good blood lines. His dad, Lonnie, was an excellent NBA power forward for the Knicks and Sonics in the 70s, and his cousin is a pretty good NFL fullback - our own Daimon.

Yes, you could say Shelton would be our 1st rounder this year if the trade went through. It's a repeat of our 1st round selection of bledsoe 3 years ago. It's a good trade because he can play either guard or tackle.

Ironically, one of the action pictures they posted of him was against us...looks like it was Ryan Denney...
