Wannstedt laments missed interceptions

PRACTICE REPORT: The only heat generated during Sunday's ugly loss to the Bills came from the Dolphins' defensive secondary, which got burned for three touchdowns and 248 yards in a span of 20 minutes that broke the game open. Coach Dave Wannstedt said Monday the Dolphins used their usual defensive formations against the Bills.

"We always have somebody deep to help," Wannstedt said. "We had that situation yesterday with every one of the touchdowns. We just didn't make the plays."

Not only did the Dolphins' defense let Buffalo receivers slide by them, they let potential interceptions slip through their hands. LB Zach Thomas and DBs Patrick Surtain, Jamar Fletcher and Sam Madison had chances to pick off Drew Bledsoe passes.

"There were some interceptions to be had, and we didn't come up with them," Wannstedt said. "I don't have an easy answer why. Every player that had a chance to come up with a turnover has done it in the past. It just didn't happen."...MORE...
