SOME SEE A SHORT STAY FOR BLEDSOE
Even though quarterback Drew Bledsoe has signed a three-year deal with the Cowboys, many league insiders predict that his stay in Dallas will last only one season, and that the Cowboys will be looking again for a quarterback on the open market in 2006.
The prediction is based on two factors. First, people simply don't expect Bledsoe to do well in Dallas. He's got zero mobility, the offensive line clearly isn't what it once was, and the receiving corps needs a guy in his prime who can stretch the field and create running lanes for Julius Jones, which in turn will buy more time for Bledsoe in the pocket via play-action.
Second, many folks don't see Parcells returning for 2006, which would be the fourth and final year of his contract. And once the Tuna goes, insiders believe, Bledsoe goes, too.
That's why, in our view, Bledsoe's 2006 salary is guaranteed. With little guarantee he'll be on the roster, the quarterback needed some financial security beyond his signing bonus.
