    Redskins close to signing Rolle

INDIANAPOLIS — So much for a quieter free agent season in Washington. The Redskins yesterday were on the verge of landing former Tennessee Titans cornerback Samari Rolle with a typically huge signing bonus, believed to be worth $15Â million, NFL sources said.
The move would reunite Rolle, 28, with Washington assistant head coach for defense Gregg Williams, who was defensive coordinator during Rolle's first three seasons, and with former teammate Steve Jackson, who now coaches the Redskins' safeties. It also means Fred Smoot, a starting cornerback the last four seasons, will be allowed to leave as a free agent.

Can someone tell me how players are getting signed? FA doesn't start until 3-2, right?

Something tells me that Snyder is praying for 2007 to still be the uncapped year.

Free agency doesn't start until March. Players due to be free agents are technically under contract until the new league year, when their old contracts expire.

Players that are released can be signed immediately because their old contracts were terminated, and thus they aren't under contract.

Makes sense considering GW was his D coordinator with the Titans. Now they've got Spring Rolles.

williams was a crap head coach, but with 2 years exception (right after our cap jail exit) he has run about the the best D in the NFL for the last 6 years. i think washington will continue to be the 03 bills, killer D and total crap ST and O that just keeps on losing games.

The skins seem clueless. They are limited on the cap yet have yet to address the offense. I know they are going to lose Smoot but they are headed to cap jail and are very mediocre on offense.
