Alstott likely a Buc for good

It appears theA-Train's final stop will be in Tampa Bay.

Fullback Mike Alstott agreed to restructure his contract Monday to remain with the team and allow him to finish his career in a Bucs uniform.

No terms were released, but the two-year contract is believed to be for the veteran minimum of $665,000 in 2005 and $765,000 in '06 and does not include a signing bonus. The second year of the contract can be voided based on playing time.

The deal was struck as the Bucs attempted to trim more than $18-million from their payroll to reach the projected $85-million salary cap by Wednesday's deadline.

It's the third time in four years Alstott, 31, has agreed to alter his contract to save the team salary-cap space. The six-time Pro Bowl player was scheduled to earn $2-million this season.

More important, it gives Alstott, drafted in the second round in 1996 out of Purdue, a chance to retire after playing his entire career in Tampa Bay.

Most do, but refuse to restructure. All they see is $$

When you're making that much money, it really doesn't make a difference between 1 million a year and 3 million a year.
