Should we post rumors too?

There is a rumor here in NE that the Pats will trade DE Jarvis Green, a RFA they tendered at the mid-level, to the Cowboys. The rumor is the Pats and 'Boys will swap positions in the 1st round (#20 & #32).

Jarvis is a young, rising player. Holliday is older, and isn't that great. Green has extensive experience in the 3-4, as a DE and at NT in pass-rush situations. Holliday has always been a 4-3 guy.

As for Burgess, he is too small to be a 3-4 end. He would be an OLB in the 3-4.

Personally, it makes a lot of sense for Dallas.

Yeah, I like him and wouldn't mind him staying. However, he is a RFA and is likely gone after the year. He won't start up front with Seymour, Wilfork and Warren there, and they drafted Marquis Hill last year. They signed Rodney Bailey through 2006, and they like him. They also have another year of Kieth Traylor, and have been developing Ethan Kelley for 2 years.

With the depth and youth the Pats have on the DL, it makes sense to trade Green if they get good value. Green would likely be too expensive to keep next year.

Jags add Chase
The Jaguars signed former Giants defensive tackle Martin Chase to a one-year, $565,000 contract that included a $25,000 signing bonus. Because the deal qualifies for the NFL minimum exception, it will count only $480,000 against the salary cap.

Dolphins re-sign deep snapper
Dolphins deep snapper Ed Perry signed a five-year deal to stay with the team that included a $300,000 signing bonus and a $150,000 roster bonus in the third year.

Bell tolls in N.Y.?
The Giants moved quickly on getting Steelers linebacker Kendrell Bell into their early plans. There is early talk about a double digit signing bonus in terms of millions. Bell, who has been fighting injuries the past couple of seasons, could reunite with defensive coordinator Tim Lewis.

In some less-than-earth-shattering free agent deals:

The NY Giants signed LB Antonio Pierce away from the Redskins. This should help the Giants, who had problems at MLB, a lot---Pierce was a tackling machine last season filling in for Arrington.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3433974

The Dallas Cowboys continued trying to revamp their defense by signing CB Anthony Henry from Cleveland to a 5-year deal. While terms were not disclosed in the article, Henry getting a 5-year deal serves to underscore the need for the Bills to sign Nate Clements to an extension ASAP!

In the same article, it states that Dallas is also interested in Green Bay OG Marco Rivera.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3433930

In addition to losing Henry, Cleveland also traded former first round pick DT Gerard Warren to the Denver Broncos for a 4th round pick in the draft. Can Browns fans spell BUST? At this point, I think so.

But, the Browns did pick up OG Joe Andruzzi from the Pats. As good as the Pats have been in replacing vets who have been injured or left in free agency, losing Andruzzi won't help their offense next season.

The Philadelphia Eagles resigned RB Correll Buckhalter.

And, last and, probably least, the Detroit Lions re-signed SS Bracey Walker.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3433644

None of these deals directly impacts the Bills, but the deal that Henry got from Dallas could have an effect on the kind of deal the Bills will have to give to Clements in order to keep him and could also make it harder for the Bills to affordably sign a solid free agent OG this off-season. The movement of Warren to Denver and the release of John Parella by Oakland could make it easier for the Bills to bring in an older, vet DT later in free agency to back up Ron Edwards and Tim Anderson in case they are unable to fill Pat William's rather large shoes (Do not be surprised if the Bills try to convert either Justin Bannan and/or Jason Peters into offensive lineman during the off-season, especially if they find the price for FA O-linemen too high for them to sign anyone that Coach McNally feels will fit within his system---based on some of the comments made by Coach McNally during the season, I have a feeling that he feels that he could turn both Bannan and Peters into serviceable O-linemen if given enough time to work with them, which he will have during the off-season.).

This is exactly what I've been preaching here lately. Everyone is so upset with TD letting JJ and PW go. Get over it! This is a business and TD is trying not only to manage the talent level, but also the financials of the club. Both players wanted to cash in, and they did. But if McNally feels that we are okay with what we have, and that he can turn what we have into what we need, then I trust his judgement! Apparently, TD does also since he has chosen this path. Let's keep an open mind and see what happens...

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms with CB Ken Lucas (Seahawks) on a contract. KFFL has learned Lucas has agreed to a six-year deal with the team. Complete financial details have yet to be disclosed, but the deal is believed to average $8 million per year over the first two years. From the article-

The addition of Peterson ends the four-year Atlanta tenure of Jay Feely, who inexplicably struggled at the Georgia Dome throughout his career here. The Falcons had made Feely an offer early in the week but gave him a deadline for accepting it. When the deadline passed, Atlanta officials quickly sought other options, and contacted Peterson on the first day of the free agency signing period.

Very underrated player (NE39 do you agree?)... The Pats keep going with the team mentality ... I hope TD is paying attention

Pass' biggest attribute is his versatility, and he has improved a lot the last couple years. He isn't great at any one thing, but he can do a lot of things pretty good. At FB, he does a decent job blocking and is a very good receiver. He can back up at RB, and generally will get the yardage that is there, although he doesn't have a lot of wiggle. He runs hard and plays physical. He is a good ST coverguy on kickoffs and punts, and he will return kicks.

He is a good example of a quality guy the Pats pay a little more for at the bottom of their roster. He is a role player who performs well in different roles, but isn't a great player at any one thing.

Well we will have to wait and see. The Vikes seem to be trying "The Dan Snyder School of football" When they sign decent older players to high contracts. I believe last time the Redskins were in the playoffs was 1999.

Now all you need is a running back, a starting QB that is less than 40 years old but started more than 10 games, a new WR threat to take the pressure off of chambers and you may get to .500 this year.

Patriots sign (http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/sportsNews/view.bg?articleid=95290) LB Monty Beisel.

Beisel fits the profile of the othe Pats LB. He is a very good ST player and came into the NFL as a DE (actually played there as a rookie) before coverting to LB (most of the Pats LB were college DL). He is a versatile guy, who has played inside, weak- and strong-side with KC during his time there. Very good athlete who runs well, he was the nickel LB for KC as well.

Hopefully, he can develop like Mike Vrabel did, his career has followed a similar path to Vrabel's before joining the Pats.
