Browns defensive tackle Gerard Warren said Tuesday he will be traded to the Denver Broncos today for a fourth-round pick providing the financial terms can be worked out, and quarterback Kelly Holcomb woke up today as an unrestricted free agent.
Holcomb's agent, Frank Bauer, continued negotiating with the Browns on Tuesday evening, but no deal was struck by midnight, meaning Holcomb became a free agent at 12:01 a.m.
"We worked diligently to try to get it done and keep Kelly in Cleveland, but maybe they're not that interested in keeping him," Bauer said.
The two sides still are about $2 million apart. Holcomb is seeking a four-year deal worth a total of about $10 million, and the Browns were in the $8 million range.
The parties will continue to talk, but Holcomb now is free to sign elsewhere.
Bauer predicted last week at the NFL Combine that Holcomb -- the Browns' first choice as a starter -- would attract plenty of interest from other teams. The Browns will bring in former Miami quarterback Jay Fiedler for a visit if they do not re-sign Holcomb.
