    Johnson enters Cards' picture

The Cardinals' search for a veteran quarterback includes Brad Johnson, a free agent after being released by Tampa Bay.

NFL rules prevented the Cardinals from contacting Johnson while he was under contract with another club. The Bucs, who re-signed quarterback Brian Griese this week, cut their ties with Johnson late Tuesday.

Johnson is familiar with Cardinals coach Dennis Green and his offense. Johnson played for Green when he was with the Vikings, from 1992-1998.

"Certainly," Johnson's agent, Philip Williams said when asked if his client would be interested in joining the Cardinals. "That's certainly an intriguing place. That's a team that could very well be on the way up."

The Cardinals are interested in adding a veteran to compete with Josh McCown, who started 13 games last season. The team also has expressed interested in veterans Kurt Warner and Jeff Garcia, who were released recently.
