Busy in Oakland

The Raiders contacted Jets halfback LaMont Jordan and convinced him to fly to Oakland to try to get him signed on the day they are trying to finalize the Randy Moss trade. The Jets have a very strong offer on the table to keep him, but the Dolphins and Bucs are also in pursuit. The Raiders are currently $2.3 million under the cap, but they have to clear more space to fit in the Moss contract and even more to do Jordan. Among the guys who could get cut are defensive tackle John Parrella and guard Ron Stone.

I wouldn't mind taking a look at John Parella. He is a solid DT, should be relatively cheap no?

I'd take John P. for the right price...

Didn't Parella already do one stint in Buffalo? And whats the deal with Stone? I thought at one time he was considered to be an above average guard.

Ron Stone would be a good pick-up, if he's who I'm thinking of.

Isn't he a pro-bowl Guard?

Hes older, from my area. I think he was only a starter for a short time.

I remember him doing good with San Fran for some reason?

Yeah I believe the Raiders were starting Middleton and Grove at the guard positions last year.

Those were his best years.. I think he was only a starter for like 4 years or so.

I thought Parrella was with Buffalo at one point:

Looks like he was with Buffalo for only one year, 1993.

He is 1 of the strongest guys in the NFL.

Both guys are old as dirt. To put it in perspective, they both started 2 years before Juice Sr. (1993), and we were headed to our last SB. I'll pass.

As much as I have always liked Parella, I will take a pass on him due to age and obvious downward turn in production.

Parella did good for the Raiders two years ago but was moved to the bench last year when Oakland brought in Sapp and Washington. I think he may have another good year or two in him. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in Tampa. Ron Stone was a very good O-Linemen for San Fran. He is older as well though. I don't think they plan on starting Middleton as one poster said. I think they released Middleton earlier this weak. I may be mistaken though.

Phil, how is it that Parrella only played one year in Buffalo? Did Buffalo trade him to San Diego or something?

wasn't traded as far as I remember..but he was on the Bills 94 preseason roster so he could've been on the final cut list and the Chargers snapped him up

Damn, talk about not giving a guy a chance. Obviously, it was the wrong move to cut him as it looks as though he has been pretty productive through out his carreer. Was that a Polian move?

Polian was long gone by then...and if he missed the final cut, it wouldn't be a GM's call..it was Marv's. Can't fault him for it. We were playing a 3-4 back then...and he was no NT...guess he didn't fit at DE either
