I found out that Coy Wire's salary has escalated to $1.43M for 2005. Don't ask me how; just noticed it. I just don't think he is worth it.

I like Wire, but not for a Million and a half. I'm sure we can find a cheaper backup SS.

He is a Special teams stud though

I like Wire because of his special teams work but not sure if he's worth that much. Cut him.

You're kidding, right?

Cut him now. He is a major liability in coverage and is still way too agressive. His ST's skills are decent, but he was an un-injured inactive the last game.

He will either restructure or be cut. He knows his only chance to stay in the NFL is to be a special teams ace for the bills. if he is cut, he wont ever make another dime!

coy is a good st player. If we cut him, then the next time a player returns a punt or KO against us dont complain....

Secondly, lets say we save 500,000 by cutting coy and bringing in a cheap backup. What are we going to spend that extra 500k on on? We are well under the cap now, yet are making no deals....

I'd look to restructure and if he doesn't want to, I say we suck it up and keep him. ST stud's kick rear and he's very helpful in the community if I remember correctly?

i like coy as a special teams ace.. and a back up SS.. but the salary is too high.. let him walk or restructure him and extend him a few years at minimum salaries.

wire is still better than reese though. :D

$1.55 Million is a bit steep for a gunner, and backup SS that has no clue how to play in coverage.

and this 1.5 isn't included in the recent Billszone cap page. Therefore we have ot subtract another 1 million form the available cap funds

This explains why TD is so quiet. Damn, Big Mike better do something about that huge contract soon. We will NEED that money if we want to sign anyone.

Some of you talk like Wire is another Tasker on special teams. Far from it. He is an average special team player who at whatever salary he is making probably won't even be on this team come September. That goes for Reese also, he sucks too.
As for Fatboy he had better come to camp in shape and be ready to work and start earning that 9 million.

$1.43 million is the same amount as the 1st rd tender for RFAs in 2005. His salary escalator may have been tied to that figure.

Many players drafted in 3rd rd or later who sign 4 yr (or more) rookie contracts have salary escalators for their last yr. For Wire, that's 2005. Problem: they are not always reported publically, especially in a 1 newspaper/1 sports radio town like Buffalo.

Both Clements and Wire salary escalators took me by surprise

Until we actually NEED the money, and until we have a replacement backup safety (Or Kicker in Lindell's case) lined up- (Draft or FA) then it's probably wise to keep what you have.

It doesn't make sense to cut your kicker and #2 safeties then find out you have to overpay to get an equall or lesser talent. Have someone else lined up first

Wire caught me by so much surprise that I restarted the computer logged back in and checked out the site again...and then again this morning...

R. Baker is one of the #2 safties. Finding another backup at the minimum will not be difficult. You can't carry a safety who can't cover anyone and can only play special teams.

I think we should redo alot of contracts on the team. Coy Wire is at the bottom though. Mike Williams is at the top of that list. And I have no idea why they haven't cut Pierson Prieleau yet!

Under meaning it doesnt look like 500k would be a huge difference......

If getting a great FA is decided by 500k i say cut him. Otherwise leave him until we really need the $$$

why cut PP until you actually need the money?

Why keep him? Unless some dumb ass GM is willing to give us something for him, I see no reason to keep him any longer.

As for Wire, I like the guy, but 1.5 milliion for a special teamer is way too much. I get a tad more peeved every day when I read stuff like this.
