    FoxSports: Pat Williams A Viking

Vikings | Williams Agrees to Three-Year Deal - from www.KFFL.com
    Wed, 2 Mar 2005 17:42:03 -0800

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to terms with free agent DT Pat Williams (Bills) on a three-year, $13 million contract including $6 million in bonus money. The deal also includes incentives that could eventually reach $15 million.

We could have afforded something like that. I want to see now what TD has up his sleave.

Minnesotta over pays for a Buffalo Bill, for the second year in a row. If that is all guaranteed cash, that's a lot of money to pay a DT with about 3 years left in his knees, max.

This pisses me off now. He went for a lot cheaper than I thought he would.

              CHEAPER than you thought?

Doing the math, that's over 6 million a season with the bonus, not including the incentives.

              That's way too much, IMO.

We could of paid it but we still have a lot of other needs to address like LT, kicker, etc. and not a ton of cap room. I think this year the Bills will be cost conscious

Still pissed we didn't try hard at all to resign the guy. He loved Buffalo, but got stilted I think.

Everyone needs to remember that if TD signs Pat to this, it takes up over half of our available money this year, and we still have to re-sign guys like Clements and London Fletcher next year, so he couldn't really back-end load it too much.

Sure we could have afforded that, but that is still way overpaying him. He is still playing at a very high level, but probably not for much longer, he has definately lost some ability to penetrate. I think Edwards will be fine, he isn't as good a run stuffer, but he has some power and explosiveness and he did well last year in limited duties. He's started before and we still have Adams, Fletcher, Spikes, etc. I think our D will be fine, especially if our backfield can work together, as the starters only started playing together towards the end when Vincent got healthy. We'll be fine, I think our worry is the O-line, but I'm glad to know that JP knows how to deal with bad O-lines and can move around cuz he will probably need to. Hopefully they can run block, I think they will especially the right sid since it will be intact.
                              Beware the sack master!
