Chop Chop! Womack Signs Two-Year Contract
By Seahawks.NET Staff
Date: Mar 13, 2005

The Seahawks have signed G/T Floyd “Pork Chop” Womack to a two-year contract. Terms of the contract have not yet been disclosed.

Womack, a fourth-round draft choice in 2001 from Mississippi State, has split time between the guard and tackle positions. He has subbed at left tackle during Walter Jones’ multiple training camp holdouts and provided valuable depth along the offensive line. Now it will be his goal to take the next step to full-time starter - quite possibly at right guard, although he’ll must likely be asked to use his versatility as well. He will not have to take Jones’ place in 2005’s camp – Jones was inked to a long-term deal in the offseason.

ICE, have you read the responses to your rantings over in your BB.COM bashing thread? If not, please do so. I've tried to outline the situation for you there with fresh perspective.

It's like arguing with someone who thinks the world is flat, the earth is the center of the universe, or that there is no such thing as evolution.

Even the evidence becomes "tainted" when someone is locked into a singular viewpoint....and the viewpoint is more important than what is real.

This goes to show that the Bills will only get a player at TDs price. I like that he doesn't overspend on a guy just to get him in here.

That's why our cap situation is so good that we already have 90% of our starting roster.

What everyone doesn't realize is how good of cap situation we actually are in (even though in my Madden game we are in great shape for this year as well!). We are in good shape for the foreseable future and won't have to do a 01 and dump all our good players like the Packers did this year.

EXACTLY! We are in a great cap situation and we don't have a 1st rounder this year, so that helps even more for next year.

Lets face it. Other than the draft, our O-line is allready here. There will be no more additions through FA that will make a difference. I am not that confident in the teams ability to protect Losman. Someone make me see the light and make me believe that we have a decent O-line.

So far, our O-line has only downgraded. Last year it was below average..........

Free Agency is only the first step here.

There are still numerous ways to obtain players before the 2005 season:

1) Trades are a potential throughout most of the offseason.
2) The Draft (and trades within the draft)
3) The Undrafted FA frenzy (don't laugh: Pat Williams was one)
4) June cuts

It's way too early to panic.

Let's not exagerate to the other side either. Why Ice is wrong that we are in cap hell, saying we are in a great cap situation is a stretch too.

How many starting LT's are going to be released after camp? I seriously doubt if 1 is. And even if there was and we signed him, would their be any chemistry on the line? I just hope our defense steps up.

He is reality, We only have 700K or less to spend. In order to have cap room to even draft we must do several of the following...

1) Cut players.

2) Trade players

3) Extend contracts.

The first two are flat out stupid. You are in cap hell when you MUST do the above things in order to improve or draft. Only 3 teams in the league are in this bad a shape, Buffalo is one of them.

ICE74129

I am hoping we can pin the ******ed responses here. 90% of a roster that COULD NOT BEAT PITTSBURGHS BACKUPS! If not for playing the top teams picking in the draft we are at best 6-10. Sorry this roster is NOT as good as some think.

but hey that's fine. I can't wait to be sitting here reminding all of you how fugged up the cap situation is and how much we drastically needed to upgrade this season when we are getting the crap kicked out of us.

Take a look at this years schedule....we are gonna get stomped if this team doesn't make some changes this offseason.

You are flat out wrong. TD has arranged the CAP so that he can take care of as much of Buffalo's CAP liability up front while leaving the option to make room under the CAP if a situation arises that warrants doing so.

CAP Hell is when you are forced to cut/trade players that you want to keep. Jennings and Williams are gone, not because Buffalo couldn't fit their big contracts under the CAP. They are gone, primariliy, because TD decided that they were not worth the money they were asking for.

It looks like the Bills didn't push too hard for him, based on this report (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sports/2002206680_hawk14.html):

"Womack had been an unrestricted free agent, and the Green Bay Packers were very close to outbidding the Seahawks for his services. But Womack chose to stay in the place he feels is home."

It does sound like he never wanted to leave:

"My wife loves it out here," Womack said Jan. 10, the day after the Seahawks' season came to an end. "She's made a lot of friends. She was very hurt (after the Seahawks' playoff loss), really emotional. It got me to thinking, too. I think this is the place for us."

Dozerdog
03-14-2005, 09:02 AM
I hardly doubt most of us "old guard' as you put it agree on much of anything.

But let's call a spade a spade- thr guy has a burr up his butt about TD- and will make any ridiculous claim to make it stick.

Want to complain the team has not been in the playoffs in 5 seasons? Go ahead. It's a valid point. But to then try to make your point with a completely ridiculous argument- that the Bills cap situation is a "disaster" and to mock people as stupid when it's clearly not the case...well- guess what- you will get as you call it Ranger- "ganged up on".

Geesh.....

Womack's deal is 2-years/$5M. He received $2M in signing bonus and salaries of $1M in 2005 and $2M in 2006. His cap numbers are $2M in 2005 and $3m in 2006.
