When Buffalo Bills assistant offensive line/tight ends coach Frank Verducci was growing up in New Jersey, he paid little attention to college and pro football. But his life still revolved around the sport because his father, Tony, was en route to becoming one of the more legendary coaches in New Jersey high school history.

“When we were kids, we didn’t follow pro or college football because our dad’s team (Seton Hall High) was the be-all and end-all,” said Verducci who, along with his three brothers, played for Tony Verducci. “If we made our beds and cleaned the house, we got to ride on the bus.

“That was a big deal for us. Just to watch the bigger kids play was a terrific environment.”

That Tony Verducci was a “terrific” coach for 36 years is reflected by the fact he’s a member of the New Jersey High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame – where he’s also enshrined with a brother, Frank, who built Barringer High into a state power (his best player was former New England Patriots linebacker Andre Tippett).
