Lee Evans soon to be joining this list IMO. He is going to be something special.

On the other hand, I think Moulds is fading somewhat. Still a good WR but not what he once was.

Speaking of joining the list, Ronald Curry and Jerry Porter.

Yup maid Kitna look like a probowler and didn't miss a beat with a "rookie" coming in. Harrison has Manning and Wayne on the other side. Holt has Bulger and Bruce on the other side. Ward has Ben and Plaxico on the other side. Owens had McNabb.

And Andre Johnson? Why? He had less catches, yards & TDs.

Mushin is a good case but he really only had the 1 year. 1st year in 4 seasons he had over 1000 yards. The previous years he had 3 TDs, 3 TDs and 1 TD.

Chad Johnson has Rudi Johnson as a run-game AND Houshmanzadeh on the other side, who really emerged last year and took pressure off CJ. Andre Johnson is on an expansion team with no OL, no consistent running game, and no one like a TJ or Wayne next to him.

Is it Chad Johnson that made Peter Warrick (03) and TJ Houshmanzadeh (04) into good players? I think I'd be on that.

Or the fact that they had a more vertical offense.

This is more like it. TO is definitely the #2 with Harrison right behind him. Moulds is still a top 10 WR in this league. I also think Joe Horn should be up there. He is getting older but definitely in the top 7 IMO.

I guess you rated Moss as far as when he decides to play..if you take the times he takes plays off into account, you'd have to knock him down a few notches

another good list, but TO is either #1 or a very very close #2.

i have never been all that big on him, but he shows up for big games in a huge way, he was great in the super bowl

I think Hines Ward is the best in the NFL. He is the smartest WR with the best hands is a team player and always catches the ball. On a side note I dont think Moulds is top 10 anymore.

My List.

1.Ward
2.TO
3.Moss
4.Harrison
5.Johnson
6.Holt
7.Rod Smith
8.Bruce
9.Horn
10.Andre Johnson

When your saying best active you have to think about things as a whole and Andre has been improving every year he is in the league and I dont doubt one bit that he is elite. How did all of you forget Rod Smith the guy is always productive he is a sure thing.

Chad Johnson is legitimately one of the best WRs in the game. I watched a rerun of the NFL skills contest on the NFL network and he was amazing in the catching drill. Against all of the other Pro Bowl WRs, he was clearly the best one. I like Andre Johnson too, I just don't think he's as good a receiver as Chad.

I don't know about that. I don't think we look for him alot anymore since we are concentrating on the run. But we should also keep in mind that it is b'cse of him that 2nd WRs look so good here. Look at Peerless and how he looked before on our team and after being without Eric. Now look at Evans...

It's like people who don't think Shaq deserves MVP just b'cse his stats aren't as high as they used to be. But...everyone else's stats are higher with him there. That means he has a tremendous team impact. I think Eric falls into that same category.

Shaq is a leader and makes plays when given the opportunity, I just dont see Moulds as inspiring and I dont think he has what he used too. I think you'll see teams doubling Evans this year not Moulds. We can only wait and see.

One of the things I thought made Moulds an elite receiver was how physical he used to play. It seems like he has lost that edge on his game.

Look at Gonzalez! In retrospect, he probably should be in the top 10 as a WR even though he is a TE....the guy is a monster.

Was I the only one who was surprised by the #'s the rams receivers put up? I just didn't think they were that productive last year.

In my opinion, to be a great receiver, a guy has to be a legit threat to score every time he catches the ball.

Moulds once was, but doesn't seem like it anymore to me.

If were going to do this specifically on stats then all my lists are pointless. I'm talking about the overall impact of the team. Stats included and past years. Just basically everything you can think of combined. If we were going by stats from last year Holmes and Moss wouldn't be on my list and Brady wouldn't be #2.

Didn't mean to imply that stats are all that important. But they are telling when you consider along with other factors.

I just put those up to make the point that Gonzalez is as productive a receiver (in all aspects of the game) as many other team's #1 WR.....and also wanted to point out that those boys from St.Louis are quite a tandem...even though they don't make my list.

I think there are an awful lot of guys real close in skill/value..

Bruce, Holt, Jackson, Clayton, Chambers, Moulds, Ward, Rod & Jimmy Smith, Coles, Mason, Lelie, etc etc etc....all great receivers who you could make a viable argument for as being a top 10 guy....this is good news for WRs and agents, bad news for teams trying to re-sign their big name WR's.

I don't agree with Ward anywhere near #1. I like the guy...a lot...better than I like most WR's in the NFL....but I just don't see him as a top 10 WR.

I understand where you are coming from but to me it is too much of a leap from "consumate team player with great skill" to "elite WR"

The King
03-21-2005, 11:32 AM
Most people would disagree with me with Hines. I think he is amazing if you look at some of the piss poor throws Ben made and Hines went out and got you'll see what I am saying especially in the Mud game vs Miami. He isnt arrogant, he is a team guy and and he is elite. He would be the guy I would want to build my recieving core around no question. He has played great under Kordel Maddox and a rookie.
