    Wire signed an extension...now what?

With Wire's recent restructure and extension, it got me thinking...

It's obvious that Wire is a significant contributor on special teams.
It's also obvious to me that he is a severe liability when he is on the field in the SS spot.

I think Wire has a lot of football skill. We just gotta find the best way to utilize it.

He's pretty good at rushing the passer...

Does he have any potential in any other areas?

To me it seems like a waste of a roster spot to have him only contributing on special teams....will Mularky try to plug him in on offense once in a while? Where would he fit?

steve tasker was not a waste for so many years that he never contributed as a wr.

if they feel wire is good enough to resign due to special teams ability, then great.

wire is also a good tackler.. and a big hitter..

i think his play his rookie year was better than he play over the last two years.. i think he regressed by being moved to FS.. but they attempted to move him there because he is a playmaker.. if he was such a ****ty player, they never would have attempted to move him to FS in the first place.

wire played well when he was used in the blaine bishop type role.. a SS in the 46 defense is not used for much coverage.. they are used as extra LBs.. there to support the run.. and rush the passer... that is what wire can do and is what he did very well as a rookie, while he racked up 90+ tackles and was in the qbs face numerous times..

i realize that he is a liability in coverage.. but there are alot of players JUST like him.. like archuleta, blaine bishop, pat tillman, lynch.. these guys are all in the same mould.. how many interceptions do you see them with? not many.. because they are not coverage guys.. if your going to keep a guy like that on the roster, which we are going to do, you have to use his strengths.. and wires are Special teams.. because he is a good tackler and gets to the ball fast.. and it works the same when he is on defense.. he is a good tackler and gets to the ball fast.. he just is not a cover guy.. and while i thought originally that he could be.. it looks like i was way off.. but the staff likes something about him and he is a captain on this team.. so the haters can get used to it.

it is still the base defense that we run...

Yep, that's right....you almost never hear any commentators or analysts talk about it because they don't understand it and they don't recognize that we are not running the 4-3. To the untrained eye, it appears to be a 4-3 base....and that's what we get labeled as. Once we make some noise in the playoffs with this D, it will get more recognition for the unique scheme that it is....and unfortunately alot of the credit will go to manboobs.

Is that when we actually have 3 safeties playing on the field? Wire closer to the LOS to help w/ run support and blitzing? And two CBs, three LBs, and 3 down lineman? That sounds like a good formation to me!

There are three teams: offense, defense and special. All three need to do well for the team to succeed. I have no problem with him being an ST ace and for spot roles on the D.
