I do and don't understand this crap. How can the friggin Eagles get four compensatory picks in the draft? Who did they lose in order to get four picks? Who did the Panthers and Patriots lose to get three picks?
Buffalo had better get two picks out of this otherwise losing Jennings and Williams to FA, two starters earning good money, is like saying they were nobodies.
I hope that the Eagles lose the next three superbowls in a row!

Wasn't that for losing Vincent and the other former Pro Bowl DB Bobby Taylor, their defensive backfield was depleted?

I think we would get picks next year for losing Williams and Jennings.

I'm pretty surprised that Denver is getting 2 3rd rounders. I know they deserve one for Bery Berry, but I didn't think Gold was that good or that he signed for much.

Keep in mind that this is trailing one year...in other words, next year's draft (2006) will be affected by the loss of Jennings and Williams.

This year our award was based on who we lost to free agency last year. They apparently saw the loss of Winfield as being offset by the aquisition of Vincent.
The loss of Reuben offset by the signing of Villariall, etc.

I don't see why the Patriots are getting 3 picks. a 3rd, 5th and 7th?

They replaced Big Ted with Keith Traylor. The only big one is Damien Woody and that's worth the 3rd rounder, but why get anything for the other guys? What did they do?

How do they judge how high a pick one should get? And what are we likely to get next year, for the loss of PW and JJ?

We would probablt get two third rounders next year for our lossed this year. Maybe this is why Donahoe doesn't want to sign any FA's.

Too bad it's not this year. In the 3rd round, we could still pick up some quality people with this year's draft!!!

I'm not sure if we would get any extra picks next year actually because we lost Jennings & Williams but signed Holcomb & Gandy. The way I read the rules per the NFL we would received none as of now.

Under terms of the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in a year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.

The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four.

This is part of the article that MTBillsFan posted.

Or more importantly, Holcomb and (probably) Gandy are backups, while JJ and PW were main starters!!!

and because of their contracts...if we don't sign anymore FAs...Buffalo will probably get at least a 3rd rounder and a 4th rounder.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-compensatorypicks&prov=ap&type=lgns I guess it depends on how valuable the league thinks the player that the team loses is.
