matt jones obviouslyI remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Matt Jones looks like a great athlete and is a definite "workout warrior." But is he a great football player, and do we need a WR/TE hybrid more than O and D linemen?Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

I think whoever gets this guy will be nothing short of estatic within a couple of years. There are questions about his "commitment", but I think when he sees the $$$ rolling in, and if he is screwing up the other teams defensive game plan, I don't think there will be any "commitment" questions.

Beware of EFS - that is, the Eric Flowers Syndrome - in evaluating guys who weren't all that productive in college, but fly up the draft charts late based on great workouts and that heavy burden of unlimited potential.Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

Jan is right. While I think Jones will be successful, the fact that he is making a position change means its far from a guarrantee. If TD doesn't like the value that is available at #55 in other areas and decides to take a chance on this kid, I support him, but he carries a bunch of IFs.I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.
I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

And it's not like he didn't have a good college career... he was a very successful runner for a bad team. I'd be wary of the position change... but this isn't any normal workout warrior.
