Chargers could alter Super Bowl planning

The NFL could face logistical concerns in preparing Qualcomm Stadium for the Super Bowl if the San Diego Chargers make the playoffs and end up hosting the AFC championship game.

Although such a scenario is a long shot, the NFL is preparing contingency plans because there's only one week in between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl on Jan. 26.

"We probably haven't ever been this close to working on the contingency plans to figure out what we're going to get done, complicated by the one week instead of the two weeks," Jim Steeg, the NFL senior vice president who is planning his 24th Super Bowl, said Tuesday.
